NAHREP and Fair Housing Groups Warn Private Listing Trends Could Exacerbate Challenges for Homebuyers of Color

According to the National Association of Realtors (NAR), about 90 percent of home sellers in the United States are White. That demographic disparity reflects a complicated history. For much of the 20th century, redlining, racial covenants, and other race-based practices, as well as unequal access to credit, prevented millions of families of color from becoming homeowners. In 2024, there were more than 32,000 reported acts of housing discrimination in our country showing that discrimination in housing remains a present-day problem, not merely a feature of the past.

NEW Guide: Share These Safety Tips with Your Buyers

National Association of REALTORS®

National Association of REALTORS®

NAR continues to roll out our “Consumer Guide” series, and they are pleased to share the latest resources on offers of compensation for home sellers. These resources cover the process and options available for offering compensation to a buyer’s agent and the reasons why this may be a compelling strategy for sellers to consider when marketing their property.

NAR hopes you are finding these resources to be useful, and they encourage you to continue to distribute them to inquiring consumers so they are armed with the information they need as they begin working with an agent who is a REALTOR®.
