May 24, 2021

Dear Parents,

I can't help but think back to July 16 when we published the guidelines for this year and we were all praying that we could be at least 2 weeks in person this year. Well, here we are, 40 weeks later, wrapping up a very unusual, but very successful school year.

´╗┐Although there are still some unknowns about the operating policies for next year, our planning is in full swing for the 2021-22 school year. For those of you new to the STS community, welcome! We are glad you will be joining us and look forward to an exciting, rigorous, and hopefully very normal school year next year.

This email is known as the "May Mailing." It contains key information - and paperwork - for the start of the school year in August. You will need to stay on top of this information throughout the summer so you are in the loop and ready to go in August. For your convenience, everything in this email is also linked in the STS Digital Backpack on the website.

Please don't hesitate to contact Mrs. Soby in the school office if you have any questions and she will be happy to assist you!

Parent To Do List
A comprehensive list is prepared below of all the things that need to get done in preparation for the start of the 2021-22 school year.

Bus Transportation Form - DUE THIS FRIDAY, MAY 28!
Complete this form to request bus service to and/or from school in 2021-22. This form must be filled out on-line for each child that will be riding a bus and submitted by Friday, May 28, 2021. Failure to request a bus route by May 28 will result in not having bus service in August! We cannot accept late bus requests. Please note that you only need to complete this form if you are requesting bus service. If you are NOT requesting bus service, please do not complete this form.

Class Placement and Moving Up Day
Class placements for grades K-8 will be distributed to students on Friday, May 28. If you are new to St. Theresa School next year, your letter will be sent by U.S. Mail. Preschool placements will be assigned in August.

Moving Up Day is June 2 from 8:15-8:40 am for rising grades K-8. If you are new to STS next year, you should have received an email invite and have RSVPed to Mrs. Kolbus. Questions? Please contact Mrs. Kolbus.

The 2021-22 calendar is live on the website and on SchoolRush.

School uniforms are available online from Dennis Uniform.

Gym uniforms and Spiritwear are available on the STS online store. Please place orders by Friday, August 6, 2021 to guarantee delivery to homerooms on Curriculum Night.

Fleece jackets are available through Dennis Uniform and should be ordered through their website.

Change: after evaluating this year's experience and after a discussion about what leads to the formation of a Christian Scholar with the Parents Association, we are changing the shoe requirement to gym shoes for all grades. Please see the guidelines in the uniform requirements linked below.

Some reminders:
  • Green polos must be dark/hunter green, not kelly/Notre Dame green
  • Socks must be cuffable and come up the ankle (no "no shows")

The Used Uniform Room will be open to find and exchange uniform parts - watch for information coming from the Parents Association about that opportunity.

Summer Study
Summer Study this year returns to more normal requirements including summer reading and summer math. Your child will receive his/her summer reading requirements on Moving Up Day. They are also linked below and can be found on the website.

Smart Tuition accounts must be set up with the correct banking accounts and active by July 1.

Registration for S.T.E.P. (St. Theresa Extended Day Program) is available for new families only. Current families please contact Mrs. Pfaller with any questions or concerns. These forms are due by Monday, August 23.

Kindergarten, 2nd Graders and 6th Graders: All entering kindergarten and 6th grade students must have the required immunization, physical, and other medical forms on file by Curriculum Night, Tuesday, August 24. Second Graders must have a dental exam and form submitted by Curriculum Night, Tuesday, August 24. All students new to St. Theresa School must have the proper medical and dental forms on file for their grade by Curriculum Night, August 24.

Clicking on the above link will prompt you to our school website with information on medical form requirements which include, physical examinations, dental examinations and immunization requirements for various grade levels, STS Emergency Form (to be filled out for every new student/family), etc.

Please open this link and read it carefully, as it provides you with pertinent information regarding medical forms that must be submitted. Students may not attend school until these forms have been filed. Please be sure you have spoken with your pediatrician and/or dentist to make the proper appointments for your child. Please contact Mrs. Montrie if you have any questions or are having difficulty scheduling an appointment.

5th Graders and New Middle Schoolers
If your child is entering Grade 5 and/or you have a new student entering Grades 5 thru 8, please read this important letter that requests a parent's permission for the Archdiocese of Chicago to share your child and family's information to local Catholic High Schools. Please click here to read the letter. Sign the 2nd page form and return to Mrs. Enza Soby, only if you DO NOT give the Archdiocese of Chicago permission.

K-8th grade students can order supply kits online or purchase the supplies on your own.

Order your supply kit online by June 13.

If you wish to purchase your supplies on your own, click on the link below for the master list.

PLEASE NOTE: Some paper goods and cleaning supplies have been eliminated from the lists because we still have supplies from this year. In addition, Expo markers have been removed from most lists. These will be provided to your child on the first week of school - we won a grant from the supply company and this was the most effective cost savings for you!

Door Numbers
´╗┐STS often refers to Door numbers and questions about which door number is where. Click here for a visual/map of our Door numbers and their locations!

Reminder about Keeping our Children Safe
All volunteers who have contact with students at school or at school-related activities, including class activities, lunch duty, coaching, chaperone field trips, etc. must complete VIRTUS certification, a criminal background check, and mandated reporter training. Each year, all adults must also complete a DCFS CANTS form and a Code of Conduct acknowledgement form.  These will be available at Preschool orientation and Curriculum Night in August.

No adult will be allowed contact with students unless s/he is in full compliance with this policy. We encourage you to complete these steps prior to the start of school in August so you can participate in school activities!

Click here for the "TOP 10 Theresaisms"! These top 10's will certainly help our new STS Families navigate from the beginning of the school year to the end!
