RAFT Volunteers Looking for Biodiversity
in the LA River
Some walk or bike it, others go fishing in it, most drive over it.
We jump in, collect scientifically-defensible data to help protect it!
Throughout the summer, our River Assessment Fieldwork Team (RAFT) volunteers venture out to a handful of sites along the Los Angeles River and its tributaries to evaluate ecosystem health and water quality, sample aquatic insects, and more.

Gain valuable scientific monitoring skills (and, take a dip in the infamous LA River) by joining RAFT. Volunteers must attend a training before participating in a field day. Learn more and look out for details on our next RAFT training session coming late this summer.
Welcome our new Staff Attorney, Liz Jones!
A native of Redondo Beach, Liz is excited to return to Southern California to join Los Angeles Waterkeeper.  Prior to joining LAW, Liz worked as an Associate Attorney at the Southern Environmental Law Center's Charleston, South Carolina office. Her work at SELC focused on increasing investment in energy efficiency and solar, opposing unnecessary transportation projects, and stopping continued water contamination at coal ash, coal tar, and gasoline pipeline spill sites.  Liz received her joint Juris Doctor and Master of Science in Environmental Resources from Stanford.  Learn more .
