“Without volunteers we'd be a nation without a soul.” Rosalynn Carter

Okay, you want to volunteer, but you’re not sure how, where and with whom.

I’m aware that sometimes organizations will contact you and you wonder whether or not it is truly legitimate. This is one of the reasons I created the Sachs Brigade. Every one of the participating organizations was vetted as a bona-fide non-profit in Palm Beach County.

The first Sachs Brigade premiered at the South County Civic Center and what excitement there was! With over one hundred people wanting to give back, whether it’s by adopting a furry friend, helping children learn to read or patrolling our communities, it was a win-win for all involved.

If you could not attend the first Sachs Brigade event you can still volunteer. Call my office at 561-355-2205 or by email at MSachs@pbcgov.org and we will assist you in finding an organization that’s perfect for you.

Homeless Resource Center II, Groundbreaking
Hope begins with a home.

Up to today the centralized point of entry for families experiencing homelessness was the Senator Philip D. Lewis Homeless Resource Center. Now the County is building a second homeless resource center projected to serve more than 500 families a year.

It is not a soup kitchen, nor a drug rehab, nor a shelter for the homeless. The Center will focus on empowering families to learn a skill and get a job and then a home. Truly the direction we must be going in to stop homelessness in our County.

Eric Call, Director of Parks and Recreation

Palm Beach County has over 86 parks 1200 employees and an $83 million annual operating budget. There is one person who is in charge of all of this… Eric Call

For more than 38 years, Eric Call has been a recognized leader in the Parks and Recreation profession and has represented Palm Beach County with distinction and professional excellence. A longtime volunteer sports coach, his leadership and volunteerism in public service was started at an early age by both his mother and father as they volunteered for the local athletic league and the local church.

More than 50 parks have been added to the County’s park system since Eric began his career. These are some that are most meaningful to him:

  • Dog Park in Lake Ida – First Dog Park in Palm Beach County. At the time it was very controversial. We now have five others. Lake Ida West Park

  • CMAA Therapeutic Recreation Complex Facilities -Adaptive recreation programs that promote leisure and play, Training and skill development, Resource and referral services, Community awareness and education. Therapeutic Recreation

  • Canyons District Park – They have been working on this project for over 20 years. Canyons District Park

  • West Delray Park - His future legacy, located on Atlantic Ave west of 441. Landscape architects are working now to design a kayak park of connecting lakes, a zip-line and a boundless nature-based playground. West Delray Regional Park

Thank you Eric for providing the recreation and fun for all of Palm Beach County residents!
