Progressive Agriculture Safety Days® named as a Finalist for the National Safety Council's 2019 Green Cross Awards

Progressive Agriculture Safety Days® were excited to recently
learn they are a finalist for the National Safety Council (NSC)'s Green Cross Safety Award for Advocacy . The advocacy category recognizes the advancement of evidence-based best practices to raise awareness or change policy to prevent further injuries and deaths.

"National Safety Council award winners don't just aim to check off a box for safety. These individuals and organizations understand that a successful day of work requires getting home safely and they prioritize safety at every level of decision-making. We are proud to honor each of our nominees and our incredible winners, all of whom are committed to working alongside NSC to eliminate preventable deaths in our lifetime." Nicholas J. Smith, Interim President and CEO of the National Safety Council

The winners will be announced on May 16 at an awards celebration at the Swissotel in Chicago. This annual celebration of safety brings together mission-driven advocates, safety professionals, corporations and government officials from around the country with the common goal of creating a safer world. The funds raised will be used to carry out all facets of the National Safety Council mission to eliminate preventable deaths in our lifetime. Every day, NSC works to identify emerging risks to our safety at work, at home and on the road and create effective solutions through research, education and advocacy.

We were ecstatic to learn in early-February that we were among the 16 semifinalists announced for coveted NSC Green Cross Award. Then to learn in early-March that we were now among the 9 finalists feels amazing. We are beyond honored to see Progressive Agriculture Safety Days®, a program that has reached more than 1.7 million since 1995, be recognized by a well-known, respected organization like NSC." DONATE NOW to Send Another Child to a Progressive Agriculture Safety Day®

From ATVs to tractors, thousands of dollars are spent each year on farms to purchase new equipment. However, an investment in safety is often overlooked. Devastatingly, every three days a child dies due to agriculture-related incidents in the United States, according to the National Children's Center for Rural and Agricultural Health and Safety.

Did you know only $13 is all it takes to send another child to a Progressive Agriculture Safety Day®? A MODEST DONATION can have a BIG IMPACT on children in farming and rural communities near you. Make a safe investment by helping another child attend a Progressive Agriculture Safety Day® in his or her local community. Donating has never been easier, with three ways to give:

1. Text " SAFETYDAY " TO 41444.
2. Click the  Donate Now button on our website
3. Send your payment to Progressive Agriculture Foundation, P.O. Box 530425, Birmingham, AL 35253.

You can donate in honor or memory of a loved one, like the family and friends of Tom Wall. When Tom tragically passed away as the result of a farming incident in May of 2016, his family wanted to ensure others would not have to experience a similar tragedy. To date, more than $2,500 in donations have poured in to send more children to
Progressive Agriculture Safety Days®. Click here to read more about Tom's story that was featured in the March 2019 issue of The Progressive Farmer powered by DTN.

CS-CASH Grant Helps PAF Create Valuable Digital Resources

Collaborations and funding support through the University of Nebraska Medical Center
College of Public Health's Central States Center for Agricultural Safety and Health (CS-CASH) assisted in the development of more than 25 digital resources. The resources aim to demonstrate how to build a prop for various farm safety and health-related topics , along with demonstrating how to use the prop to effectively teach children at Progressive Agriculture Safety Days®.

Our project, Creating Enduring Resources for Farm Safety Education , will assist Progressive Agriculture Safety Day® Coordinators, and volunteer presenters, along with other agricultural educators. The digital collection highlights more than 10 specific safety topics including grain, silage, tractor rollover, power take-off, ATV, disability awareness, personal protective equipment, water, and hearing. The resources bring blue prints and designs to life, guiding visual learners in observing the process and assembly first-hand.

In 2018, project was highlighted through presentations at the International Society for Agricultural Safety and Health (ISASH) Conference, National FFA Convention, National Association of Agricultural Educators (NAAE) Convention, and the Midwest Rural Agricultural Safety and Health (MRASH) Conference.

The digital resources are available on the PAFSafetyDays YouTube Channel. Click here to view the full playlist.

Safety Tip - Poison Prevention

Did you know u nintentional injuries are the leading cause of death among people ages 1 to 44 and continue to be the fifth leading cause of death overall, according to the National Safety Council? In 2016, nearly 69,000 deaths were related to poisoning. Every day, more than 300 children in the United States, ages 0 to 19, are treated in an emergency department as a result of being poisoned.

At Progressive Agriculture Safety Days®, chemical safety continues to be one of the most popular topics offered reaching more than 50,000 youth participants and adult volunteers in 2018. Our latest blog post, Let's Call Your Attention to the Importance of Poison Prevention , highlights National Poison Prevention Week, held annually during the third week in March, and offers important safety tips to keep children and families safe.
