Thousands of Eggs to be found at 'Adult Only' Easter Egg Hunt- This Saturday

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Do you miss the days of being able to participate in Easter egg hunts without having to give all the candy to your kids? The Boy Scouts of America Sagamore Council has you covered this weekend.

Saturday, the council is hosting the ' Scouting for Eggs ' Adult Easter Egg Hunt. Organizers say it's just like the hunts when you were a kid.

Most of the 5,000 eggs hidden at Cary Camp will have candy inside. However, in a select few, there will be everything from gift cards, to movie tickets, to golf passes and even a flat screen TV ticket.

Bryon Haverstick with the Sagamore Council says this is the perfect night to leave the kids at home and come have fun like a kid.

"We're not just putting them in a field and saying go pick up eggs like you do with your three year old," said Haverstick. "These bad boys are going to be all over camp. There's hundreds of acres out there of camp to wander and we are really excited. It's going to be a lot of fun."

There will be food trucks available for dinner as well. It's Saturday night at Cary Camp off State Road 26.  Check in begins at 7 p.m. with the hunt starting at sunset around 8:30 p.m. The cost is $10 per person.

Take the Trashtag Challenge, the latest viral craze that’s perfectly suited for Scouting

Finally, a viral challenge Scouts can fully endorse.

It’s called  the Trashtag Challenge , and it’s inspiring people on social media to pick up trash and share that good deed on  Twitter  or  Instagram .

The concept of picking up trash, even if it’s not yours, should seem familiar. Scouts have been leaving outdoor spaces better than they found them long before Twitter or Instagram were invented.

But sharing that Good Turn on social media? That’s a new concept for most Scouts, who prefer to perform their acts of generosity without expecting credit.

Consider the Trashtag Challenge a two-part Good Turn: the cleanup act itself, followed by the post that inspires others to follow your example. Read More

The most important patch in Scouting might not be what you think

The Arrow of Light marks a major milestone in a Cub Scout’s growth. The senior patrol leader badge represents the most important position in a troop. And the Eagle Scout award symbolizes an incredible journey of perseverance.

But when considering the array of Scouting awards and recognitions available to young people, there’s one that stands above them all.

If you think about its ability to grow Scouting and introduce this life-changing program to new people,  the Recruiter Strip  might be the most important patch in Scouting.

It’s also one of the easiest to earn. Read More
Bookmark these two essential Scouts BSA resources for new and longtime leaders

Better make room on your bookmarks bar.
The BSA has refreshed and retooled a pair of online resources for Scouts BSA volunteers.

The first is the  Program Resources page . Think of it as your quick-start guide to Scouts BSA. Here, you’ll find a collection of links for starting a Scouts BSA troop, helping Scouts earn merit badges, guiding youth leaders toward more effective troop meetings and more.

The second is the  Program Updates page . This one’s for both newcomers and veterans, and it’s where the National Scouts BSA Committee posts the latest information on any changes to the program. If there’s a new program initiative, updated requirement or any change to Scouts BSA printed material, you’ll find it there first.

Extreme Makeovers, Round 26: Eagle Scout project before-and-after photos

To fully understand the impact Eagle Scout projects have on communities, you need to see to believe. That’s why  I asked to see Eagle Scout project before-and-after photos  — the same photos prospective Eagles are asked to include with their post-project report.

This week’s batch of 18 projects includes a 24-foot bridge over a creek, a tire-climbing tower for rescued dogs and a pair of outdoor sensory stations for students with autism.

What’s great is that you can multiply each individual act of stupendous service by more than 50,000. That’s how many Eagle Scout projects get completed every single year. Read More

Scout Executive's Minute

Scouting Friends,

March was an exciting month for the Sagamore Council. Thanks in large part to all of you, we’re serving more members through more Packs and Troops than we were last year. It’s an awesome time to be a member of the BSA, and with so many new opportunities available, you can't help but feel the excitement in the air.

Over the coming weeks, Cub Scout Packs and Scouts BSA Troops will finalize their plans for our great summertime programs. I hope you’ll plan to join us at as many of these opportunities as you can. My family will be attending Day Camp and Cub Adventure Camp, and I can’t wait for my weekly visits to Camp Buffalo. Speaking of Camp Buffalo…. Ranger Billy is working this week to build the Cowboy Action Shoot scene and to complete the new Chalk Ball Course. Scouts who attend Camp Buffalo this summer will have more opportunities than ever before.

All of these things are possible because of the generous support of our program sponsors and donors. Annually we ask each of our Scouting Families, along with our community, to join us in making an investment in Scouting. An investment in Scouting provides countless opportunities for youth. It helps shape and mold them into leaders, and provides a moral compass that youth today often aren’t equipped with. Each family is encouraged to support our Friends of Scouting campaign at the 1 Scout level of $153. Many of us can and will give at a higher level, but whatever you can do will help us continue to grow Scouting, change lives, and build a stronger future for our youth.

Thanks for all you do!

Ben
