The Saints Express | Employee Newsletter

First and foremost, I want to express my sincere appreciation to all faculty and staff. This semester, we served more students than we have ever served in one semester eclipsing enrollment from 2009. The increase in enrollment is credited to your dedication and ability to create a positive learning environment. We continue to offer additional opportunities for our students to get involved in campus life and expand our footprint within all communities in our service area. Nonetheless, we cannot be satisfied, and we will continue to innovate our processes and procedures regarding recruitment, retention, and enrollment.

Earlier in the semester, we announced the addition of Men and Women's golf and cross-country teams. With this addition, we now offer nine athletic teams which represent our institute with a high level of character and integrity evidenced by our baseball team winning the 2021 ACCC Sportsmanship Award. All teams have mandated each athlete to participate in a number of service hours within the community and around our campuses. As we continue to look for ways to serve our community, extra-curricular activities will play an integral part in providing opportunity and excitement for our prospective students.

We are in the process of capital updates to many areas around each location and are working with architects to design several renovation projects poised to bring LBW into the 21st century of campus development. Our academic classrooms and career and technical programs continue to need updates, and we hope with support from Chancellor Baker and the Board of Trustees, we will see these projects come to fruition within the next few years.

There are so many good things going on within our institute, and I’m proud to be a part of the growth and change. Education is a tough industry and is a true calling. We teach. We counsel. We lead. We love, and we care for our students when no one will. We provide attention and assurance when our students need it. I challenge you to never lose sight of the impact your class, your hello, or your smile may have on someone. I love this school, and I love your commitment. LBW is alive in our communities. Let’s continue to be difference-makers in the lives of our constituents. We are in this together, and I am committed to moving LBW forward.

Sierra Newman Benefit Concert

The LBW Ensemble recently held a benefit concert honoring the late Sierra Newman and raised almost $2,000 for the Sierra Newman Memorial Scholarship Fund. The family and friends of Sierra have been working diligently to endow a scholarship in her name and are so very close. The scholarship was established in 2019 and honors the 2018 Georgiana High School graduate, and LBWCC student and ensemble member at the time of her death, Sierra Newman, who lost her life in a November 2019 vehicle accident.

Ensemble Director, Johnny Brewer, organized the benefit featuring 3 local bands and concluded the show with a performance by the LBW Ensemble. It was truly a beautiful tribute to Sierra and a top-notch showcase of local talent.

A minimum of $25,000 is required to establish an endowment scholarship. The Sierra Newman Memorial Scholarship is currently just $4,000 shy of this goal. You can help the family of Sierra by donating today.

Tax deductible monies donated for an endowment remain untouched with investment interest used to fund scholarships for generations to come. Donations can be made with a one-time gift or pledged over a period of time with automatic withdrawals.

Please specify that you would like to donate to the Sierra Newman Memorial Scholarship fund.
