The Salt of the Earth

Greetings Ministry Partners,

In recent days, Christian social media platforms have been flooded with posts exposing problems within the Church and attacking certain pastors in Vietnam, attracting thousands of views and comments. This has raised serious questions about the character of Christian leaders and how Christians use social media.

As an educator, I value debate and diverse perspectives, but such discussions must take place in an appropriate setting. Theological debates should serve learning and critical thinking under qualified guidance, ideally in a classroom. On social media, however, theological debates often turn into personal attacks, negativity, and hostility. Ultimately, those who benefit most are the enemies of Christianity.

When Jesus said, “You are the salt of the earth” (Matthew 5:13, ESV), I found the image of salt fascinating. Salt is ordinary and familiar, yet it serves more purposes than we often realize. Three functions of salt particularly challenge me.

First, salt enhances flavor. It is not the main ingredient, but its presence improves the food. Likewise, Christians need not be the center of attention, but our presence should make our families, churches, workplaces, and communities better. Second, salt preserves. In ancient times, before refrigeration, salt protected food from decay. Similarly, Christians are called not to withdraw from society but to resist moral corruption and preserve what is good, true, and holy. Third, salt has historically been used to cleanse and care for wounds. This challenges me most. Sadly, some Christians today use their “salt” not to heal but to inflict further wounds.

Therefore, every Christian should ask: Does my presence make life better for those around me? Am I creating a healthier environment or increasing tension? Do my words preserve what is good or contribute to moral decay? Am I healing the wounded or causing them further pain?

May our lives be like salt, enriching the world around us, preserving what is good, and helping wounds heal. Wherever we are, may our presence bring the flavor of grace, the preserving power of truth, and the healing touch of love.

We are grateful for your partnership as we seek to reflect Christ’s grace, truth, and love in the communities we serve.

Thank you for your prayers and support,

Testimonies

CCI Student

"First of all, I give thanks to God for guiding Pastor S to come and teach us Book #6, Personal Spiritual Life. Through the three days of study, I have learned many valuable lessons. Among them, two key points have greatly benefited my spiritual life. First, I realized that as a Christian, I must be clearly mindful of my responsibility to go out and share the gospel so that many people may come to know Jesus Christ. Second, I must always remember that I belong to the Lord. Therefore, I should not place my hope or trust in this world, but rather place my full faith in God, living according to His Word and submitting to His guidance every day. These are the things I have learned through this course. That is all I wish to share. Praise be to God!"

God’s Financial Principles (GFP) Participant

"I thank God for today’s training on God’s Financial Principles. What I learned is that everything I have is given to me by God, and He is the One who gives me the strength to do all things. He wants me to give a portion back to Him. I also learned how to teach my children and my family to manage money according to God’s will and to live in love with my children."

Staff Update

From the Hmong Northern Coordinator

Praise the Lord for His protection and guidance during the teaching trip to northwest Vietnam in August. The journey was filled with challenges: the village was accessible only via narrow, hand-dug mountain paths, and there was no cell service or internet coverage.

Communication to organize the class relied entirely on faith and a few delayed messages. On Monday morning, upon receiving word that the students had already gathered and were eagerly waiting, I traveled 180 km (from 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM) to commence the first course. Even when I briefly lost my way, God guided me through local villagers who pointed me in the right direction. Despite the physical hardships and isolation, the students’ deep hunger for God’s Word and the warmth of Christian fellowship showed that while cellular connection was lost, our bond in Christ was never broken. All glory and thanks belong to God!

Prayer Requests & Praises

  1. Please pray for the censorship review of Book #5, that we may receive the publishing permit soon. Book #5 deals with the Doctrine of Creation, which the publisher often rejects as unsuitable.
  2. On October 7-8, the Northern Hmong Coordinator went to open a new class. This will mark our first partnership with a Good News Evangelical Church.
  3. Please pray that the Lord will keep all students and teachers safe throughout the organization and teaching of the class.
  4. Please pray for our partnership with a new church in northern Vietnam this November. Pastor H will be traveling there to lead a Teacher Training Workshop (TTW) and launch a new class in the capital city.
