Happy Spring to all the Ferris Saxons out there! This year, the start of Spring sports came with fresh snow. In the spirit of Ferris, our teams adapted and adjusted to the challenge and carried out our practices in the gym, hallways, Commons, and areas throughout our building. As always, I’m appreciative of the flexibility and comradery of our students and coaches working together.

This same spirit was on display as our fabulous Parent Teacher Group put on this year’s Ham on Regal, “Bacon and Brilliance: Quest for the cup.” Anyone who saw the show knows how unique and fun this tradition is. I want to thank everyone who bought a ticket or participated in the show. This is truly a one-of-a-kind event (61 years running) that supports students throughout our school.

Finally, I want to say that Spring is a very busy time at Ferris. Students will be getting emails to review their registration requests, classes are gearing towards end-of-year assessments, Theatre students are working on several shows (Romeo & Juliet, Project Hope, Thesperados and Saxon Bards shows), Music students are working on Spring concerts (Band, Choir, Orchestra), CTE clubs are competing in a variety of events, our Dance Team is headed off to State, and athletic competitions are in full swing. I want to encourage everyone to come to some of these events (you’ve got lots to choose from) to support our kids and be inspired by their commitment and dedication. Let’s all make this a memorable Spring at Ferris!

CONCERT #1:

MONDAY, MARCH 25 – DRUMS & JAZZ: A Groove Awakening

7:00pm – Paul G. Brueggemeier Hall

This concert features our two jazz bands and our two percussion ensembles. One of the unique tunes in this concert is the premier of a piece I wrote for our drum line, Donuts in Space! The concert will be about an hour and fifteen minutes. Lots of grooves and sweet beats!

CONCERT #2:

TUESDAY, MARCH 26 – THE MUSIC OF RANDALL STANDRIDGE

7:00pm – Fox Theater, Spokane

This concert features the music of all one composer. The piece the Wind Ensemble is playing is Symphony #1: a Ghost Story, a commissioned work of which we are a part. This performance will be the northwest premier of the piece. The Wind Ensemble and Concert band have enjoyed exploring the musical traits of one composer over the last 10 weeks. We hope you will join us.
