RETIREMENT PARTY FOR DEPARTING STAFFERS
On June 26th Board Members, Faculty, Staff and friends of Monsignor Scanlan High School said good-bye to three of their co-workers, friends and respected colleagues at a Retirement Party in the Gallagher Gym. Principal, Peter Doran was departing after five years of extraordinary service - having turned our school around during his tenure. Faculty member Victoria Chieco '76 was honored for her 38 years of dedicated service having taught English to countless Scanlan students and Sister Maria Garguilo - former Assistant Principal, Dean and teacher - was honored for her 34 years of service to Scanlan. (
Unfortunately, Sr. Maria was not able to attend this event
). Both Pete and Vicky were surprised by the retirement party and by all of their family members, co-workers and friends who were in attendance. It was a happy yet bittersweet event and we wish all three of these cherished members of our Scanlan family a happy and healthy retirement.

PLEASE DONATE TO THE SCANLAN STEM PROGRAM
$15,000 IS NEEDED FOR PLANNED EXPANSION
The Scanlan Science Department is hoping to expand their STEM Program with the addition of a Robotics Club and with the purchase and installation of an on-campus Greenhouse.
I
ntroducing Robotics in our school means making STEM skills and knowledge hands-on and fun - preparing our students for the future in a way that feels more like creativity and less like homework
.
Robotics requires all of the subjects of STEM, so it’s a well-rounded approach to educational technology and learning.
A greenhouse is a cost effective way to integrate so many things that students are learning in their classes. It takes them from "show it" to "do it." It gets students out of their seats and in touch with nature. They learn about their responsibility to the planet and about the issue of global sustainability. And although extremely beneficial to the Science Program, a greenhouse can be incorporated into Art classes, Math classes and Language Arts as well.

mathematicians of the future
