THE SCIENCE BARGE
The Science Barge is upgrading in accordance with technological advancements in solar and wind power. We now have over 20 new solar panels and three new wind turbinesall of which are state-of-the-art! Thanks to funding from The City of Yonkers, our friends at Croton Energy and Blue Horizons Construction are installing new solar arrays from Brooklyn Solar Works and new wind turbines from Primus Wind Power. We can't wait to reopen to the public once the upgrades are completed and new safety parameter fencing is installed!
Our growing systems are up and running, including the new tower gardens shown below. We will be growing peppers, tomatoes, herbs, okra, and our newest addition—mushrooms!
We will continue to use the harvest we yield to serve the Yonkers YWCA along with other food insecure residents in our community.
Our sustainability education team has also completed an exciting array of new interactive lesson plans. These lessons have been delivered to thousands of public school students all throughout the shutdown up to this day. Take a look at what we offer and book a class!
Lastly, we would like to remind you that our Science Barge Celebration is happening on July 17! More details to come related to opening, free visitation hours, and paid bookings.

Thank you for supporting Groundwork's Science Barge throughout this difficult year. In spite of the many challenges we've endured together, we are proud of what we have achieved and look forward to celebrating with you on the 17th!
