Presentation of Award at the Science Center
Thanks to a $250,000 three year grant from the Able Trust, The Science Center will be able to help dozens more people like Jesse Lafferty.  Jesse lives with PTSD so severe it left him unemployed for over a year.  " There was no future.  There was no light at the end of the tunnel," said Lafferty.  After completing the construction trades class at the Science Center, he landed a job in the industry within a week.

"There's just a ton of talent out there. The biggest barrier they have to overcome is misperceptions in the business community of what they're capable of," said Susanne Homant, President of the Able Trust.  The Able Trust is dedicated to providing people with disabilities opportunities for successful employment.

The Science Center provides pre-vocational training and work experience opportunities for in-demand occupations such as construction, manufacturing and information technology.  " Our goal is to train people, while helping them overcoming barriers," said Ed Peachey, President and CEO of CareerSource Pinellas.
