Meet Percy!
Iguanas, like Percy, are some of the largest lizards found in America.  Like other reptiles, iguanas are cold-blooded, egg-laying animals with an excellent ability to adapt to their environment.  Most iguanas are herbivores eating fruit, flower buds, and leaves.

"All About Animals," is a very popular STEM Extension class at the Science Center.  Percy, and his five iguana friends, play an important role in helping students discover more about iguanas including where they live, what they eat, how big they get and other fun facts.  In addition, students explore ways to classify animals based on their physical characteristics and behaviors just like a scientist.  Percy enjoys his special guest appearances in the STEM Extension classes!

Over 5,000 Pinellas County school students will participate in STEM Extension programs at the Science Center this year.  Each 45-minute class for grades K-2 or 90-minute class for grades 4-12 introduces a number of content specific benchmarks in one of four science categories: Life, Physical, Earth & Nature or Nature of Science. STEM Extension offers over 60 hands-on programs featuring everything from space to animal-themed classes.
SUPPORT IGUANAS!

Your $5,000 contribution will sponsor an animal-themed STEM Extension class plus help maintain the Iguana habitat.

Your support helps foster innovative science, technology, engineering and math education.  These experiences build the foundation for life-long learning and future career success!

THANK YOU NICKLAUS OF FLORIDA, INC!

The Science Center received $5,000 from Nicklaus of Florida, Inc. to support STEM Education at the Science Center. Thank You!

Chelsea Duca
Volunteer of the Month

Chelsea enjoys taking care of the resident animals at the Science Center.  She especially enjoys Elliott, the rat snake.  Chelsea feeds him, cleans his habitat and gives Elliott lots of attention.  She often does "double-duty" by helping to prepare materials for STEM lessons while ensuring Elliott gets the one-on-one attention he deserves.

Thank you, Chelsea, for everything you do!
