August 2024

It may still feel like summer around here, but we're getting ready to head back to school! We relish this time of year with its sense of new beginnings, making it the perfect occasion to do something different! Celebrate change with Valley Humane Society by adopting a furry new friend, or exploring our community programs.

This month, our adoption center will be getting a new coat of paint inside and out, in addition to other improvements--check out the naming and recognition opportunities you can participate in, below. We also have adoption events scheduled nearly every Sunday in August to help cats and dogs find their own new beginnings, and we're participating in NBC's Clear the Shelters 10th anniversary. Let’s send summer off by making warm memories, while we turn future-forward toward an even brighter fall together!

Adoption Options

Join us for a month of amazing adoption events this August! On Sunday, August 11, we’ll be at Pet Food Express Blackhawk in Danville from 11 am – 3 pm with adoptable kittens, cats, puppies, and dogs. The following Sunday, August 18, enjoy Paws and Pours at Del Valle Winery in Livermore from 12 – 4 pm, featuring adorable dogs and puppies available to adopt. Finally, end the month with Dog Day Afternoon at Wente Vineyards in Livermore on Sunday, August 25, from 11 am – 4 pm. Bring donations of dog food and treats, enjoy live music, food trucks, and maybe meet your new furry friend!

Take the Step to Prep

August is National Make-A-Will Month! As summer winds down and families prepare to go back to school, it's the perfect time to plan for the future. Many animal lovers have included Valley Humane Society in their estate plans, creating a lasting legacy of kindness and compassion. If you're one of them, please let us know by filling out our quick form, so we can say, "Thanks!" and update our records. Haven't made your will yet? Your foresight can help rescue animals, promote responsible caretaking, and create lasting bonds. Use FreeWill's tool to quickly define your wishes and build a brighter future for animals before the school bell rings.

The Name Game

Valley Humane Society is getting a new look! We’re excited to announce improvements to our Nevada Street adoption center, which hasn't been updated since 2011. This special space has welcomed thousands of animals, volunteers, and visitors over the years, and it's time for a refresh.

Make your mark on Valley Humane and leave a lasting impression on all who visit by supporting this project. Order a colorful tile on one of our recognition plaques, or explore larger area naming opportunities.

Improvements start in mid-August, so time and availability are limited. Order your name tile today or explore larger naming opportunities with Development Manager Claire Maniti at cmaniti@valleyhumane.org or (925) 426-8656, ext. 117. With your help, our adoption center will continue to shine bright!
