Spring is here! It seems fitting, somehow, to be entering a season of hope and renewal as we approach our one year anniversary of life with Covid. As more people become vaccinated, positive cases rates decline, tiers lighten, and counties consider reopening, the change in the air takes on a more tangible presence. Thanks to your compassionate support and friends like our Sunny Day sustainers, Valley Humane Society is ready to meet the future head on and make things a whole lot brighter for the dogs, cats, and people who need our help. Grab a pair of shades and join us!

Compassionate Care for Cats

In order to improve the experience of cats and kittens in our care, Valley Humane Society stopped routine intake testing for FIV/FELV earlier this year. Many factors informed this decision, such as the inconclusive nature of test results (especially in young kittens), which can cause multiple retests and delayed adoption. Our veterinarian feels these tests are better handled by the adopter's own vet. In-house testing is best reserved for felines showing clinical signs of FELV/FIV, or arriving with bite wounds or abscesses. All VHS adopters will still be provided medical information about the animal going home, and our adoption counselors are available to answer additional questions.

Must Love (Large!) Dogs

Have you been considering becoming a pet foster while spending more time at home? Valley Humane Society is currently looking for foster volunteers for large dogs. New volunteers must have previous dog ownership experience and be comfortable housing dogs over 40 pounds in their home. We'll provide everything needed to foster an animal - veterinary care, food, leash, collar, and all necessary supplies. You just provide bushels of TLC! Mark your calendars and get ready to save the date for Tails at Twilight! Scheduled for Friday, October 29, 2021, our annual gala has been moved from its usual March time slot to later this fall, and we can't wait to see you there. We'll be celebrating with a "Spooktacular" theme...more details on this magical celebration of the shared bond between people and pets coming soon.

Tuesday Trivia Your Way

Join hosts Jeff and Nancy in person or online as they continue to bring 3rd Tuesday Trivia in support of Valley Humane Society! Play virtually on the Homebrew Trivia Facebook page or stop by McKay's Taphouse on Tuesday, March 16 at 7 pm. Put your thinking caps on, get comfy and enjoy the fun!

Canine DNA Tests

We love them no matter what...but, what are the-y, exactly? Now you can find out your mutt mix with Wisdom Panel 3.0, the DNA test for dogs. This easy at-home test uses cheek swabs and returns results in 2-3 weeks. Tests are available from Valley Humane Society for just $75; call (925) 426-8656 for purchase information.

Lend A Helping Paw

For high school seniors looking to fulfill service hours, virtual opportunities are still available! Possible activities include hosting fundraisers and donation drives or making enrichment crafts.
