your faith and connect with our community.
From the Minister

I am so happy and excited to be at the First Unitarian Society of Westchester! September and the change in season it brings here in the northeast have always been special to me. I love the growing orange, gold and red in the leaves of the trees and the increasing hints of crispness in the air. Yes, it is true that September marks the end of summer, but for us here at FUSW, it means the start of our relationship together. As many of you may already know, I will also be the minister at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Poughkeepsie, and I will only be here at FUSW for a year. Even so, I trust that in the time we do have together that we will do great things, and I truly hope to get to know as many of you as possible. I will be at FUSW on Tuesdays from 11 to 3 and on Wednesdays from 11 to 2. You can always stop by to say “hello,” but if you would like to schedule an appointment to come and speak with me at another time on either of those days, please call the office at 914-478-2710. See you on Sunday! ~ Viola Abbitt
From the Board President

Although the summer season may not end for a few more weeks, the practical summer season is over, and we’re off to another new year at FUSW. To say that I am excited would be an understatement; I am looking forward to this year with great enthusiasm. But first let me say goodbye to our season of summer services, which, as those fortunate enough to partake of them can testify, were of a high quality this year. I wish I could have been to all of them, but the six or seven I attended were enlightening, uplifting, informative and imaginative – everything a Sunday session should be. Thank you to all who led one of the services, and a special thank you to Sue and Steve Pilko for stepping up and coordinating the whole experience. Let me now turn and extend a hearty and heartfelt welcome to Viola Abbitt, Minister, who will be in the pulpit this Sunday to begin her year with us as our minister... read more HERE . ~ Craig Butler
Children’s Program at First Unitarian Society of Westchester

The FUSW Children’s Program is for children Pre-K through High School, and includes childcare for infants and toddlers. Unitarian Universalism is a questioning faith, and our children are encouraged to explore their own ideas of spirituality, guided by UU principles. Our Children’s Program uses elements of storytelling, theater, music, and art, plus a variety of other activities (gardening, cooking, crafts, outdoor exploration, and meditation, for example) to help impart our values. We have policies to ensure each child’s safety; at least two adults will always be present when children are gathered. We also provide children with opportunities to be part of our community, interacting with adults in the congregation before and after worship, and at all-ages social events throughout the year, such as game nights, potluck dinners, and musical programs. Young people are at the core of who we are and what we believe, and our goal is to recognize and nurture them as the unique individuals that they are, each with their own gifts, talents, identities, and needs. Questions? We welcome them! Please contact Rina Schunk ( , 914-478-2710). We look forward to getting to know your child!
