Annual Advent Party at South Church
Sunday, December 8, 4:00pm, South Presbyterian Church, 343 Broadway, Dobbs Ferry
South’s annual Advent Party, on Sunday, December 8, is always a wonderful evening of laughter, good food, friends old and new, children and adult crafting together, caroling and the lighting of the Christmas Tree.
The fun will begin at 4:00pm, outside on the front lawn. There will be hot cider and chocolate and wine to sip. From 4:15 to 5:15pm there will be children and adult craft hour in the Chapel. Everyone will gather outside to light the South Church Christmas Tree at 5:15 pm. It is wonderful to see the lights and the beauty of Advent as we sing together. At 5:30 pm, dinner is served family style in Fellowship Hall. People sign up to host a table (bringing a main dish for 10 people) as well as to bring sides, dessert and wine. Tables will be set, juice and sparkling water provided. The famous Mediocre Ensemble, led by Doug Epstein, will play music during dessert. If you haven't played your instrument in years ... that's perfect!
Come with your family or come alone--one of the reasons this evening is so magical is that we are all together.
To RSVP, email legiannone@yahoo.com.

Reading Black Lives Book Group
Saturday, December 21, 1:15 - 2:45pm, Barnes Room at Hastings Public Library
We will be reading One of Our Kind by Nicola Yoon (June 2024).
One of Our Kind is "an artful page-turning thriller, but constantly mindful that decisions about community and identity can put lives at stake." - Kirkus Reviews. Jasmyn and King Williams move their family to an all-Black gated community called Liberty in California. Jasmyn expected to find liberals and social justice activists striving for racial equality, but most residents seem more focused on booking spa treatments and ignoring the world’s troubles. Then Jasmyn discovers a terrible secret about Liberty and its founders.
