FUSW Officially Calls Rev. Arlin Roy!

With great joy, we announce that on Sunday, March 12, the members of FUSW voted to call Rev. Arlin Roy as our part-time settled minister! Please join the FUSW community in welcoming and affirming Arlin in his new role!

Share The Plate Updates

Our March Share the Plate recipient is Family-to-Family, Inc. (https://www.family-to-family.org/), a grassroots nonprofit 501(c)(3) hunger and poverty relief organization dedicated to providing food, personal hygiene products, and other basic life essentials to American families struggling with the challenges of poverty. By connecting donors one-to-one with specific families in need, Family-to-Family’s mission is to bring a large and seemingly intractable problem – poverty – into personal focus, making concrete and meaningful results possible…one family at a time. We collect for our Share-the-Plate partner throughout the month. Visit the Donation page on fusw.org, click “Donate,” and select “Share the Plate.”

Reading Black Lives

The FUSW Reading Black Lives book group is reading Harlem Shuffle, the latest from Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award winner Colson Whitehead. The group will meet in April (date TBA) to discuss the novel, which NPR called "a suspenseful crime thriller" and "a powerful tale of a man's love for his family and the neighborhood where he lives." All are welcome. Please contact Denise Woodin (dcw2@optonline.net) if you would like to join in.

From Our Worship Community

The warmest regards from a cherished member of our congregation, Joyce Fish. Sue and George McAnanama visited her on a recent trip to Washington D.C.

Walkabout Clearwater Coffeehouse

Race & Song: A Musical Conversation with Reggie Harris and Alastair Moock, Saturday, March 18, 7:30pm, Walkabout Clearwater Coffeehouse

Join these two veteran musicians and storytelling troubadours for a very special performance –– an exploration of the past, the present, and the possible. These friends of different races, ages, and social backgrounds share how they’ve seen and experienced the world in different ways. They explore issues of race, class, gender, and history with an intentionality and generosity of spirit that will draw in folks of all ages. These aren’t always comfortable topics for discussion, but the discussion –– and the discomfort –– are keys to moving forward. Together in musical conversation, and with the aid of historical and family photos, Alastair and Reggie open up to each other and frame their perspectives through music.

The evening will begin with the Coffeehouse's popular Teachabout, or singalong, at 6:45 p.m. The concert itself begins at 7:30 p.m. Join us at our new location: Community Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 468 Rosedale Avenue, White Plains, NY 10608.

Tickets are $23 in advance; $25 at the door. Click here to purchase tickets in advance.

FUSW Contacts & Information

Questions, Concerns, or Compliments for FUSW? Reach out to any member of our Board of Trustees, fusw.org/board-of-trustees (place cursor over picture, then right-mouse click to copy email).

The Board of Trustees usually meets on the third Tuesday of each month. Meetings begin at 7:30pm. We are currently meeting online. Meetings are open to any member of FUSW. If the Board enters into executive session to discuss personnel or confidential matters, non-Board members will be asked to leave for that portion of the meeting. At the end of the meeting there will be an open forum, moderated by the President, during which non-Board members can speak about topics of concern. We ask that you limit your remarks to two minutes. This forum will last from five to ten minutes, depending on the Board agenda. Please contact any Board member if you have questions or comments. To access the minutes from previous meetings, visit the Members page of fusw.org and click on Board Minutes Archive. Click here to join our meeting on Zoom.

Scheduling Online Meetings To schedule a Zoom online meeting for your committee or program group, contact Rina Schunk (admin@fusw.org) with the purpose, date, and time you need, as well as information you want included in the Scoop. Rina will check availability, schedule the calendar, and send you the invitation link.

The Scoop e-newsletter is sent out each week. Have news to share? Submit articles to our administrator, Rina Schunk (admin@fusw.org), by Wednesday at 10:00am. To schedule events on the FUSW Calendar, contact Rina Schunk at admin@fusw.org
