TA Topics: Child Abuse Prevention

Establishing healthy, professional relationships with the families in your care will help to provide a safe, trusting, and nurturing environment where children and families can learn together and thrive together. Understanding each family and their unique needs can be both challenging and rewarding. Being able to provide resources to support families is an essential step in the prevention of child abuse and neglect. Helping families to build the 5 Protective Factors which include: Parental Resilience, Social Connections, Knowledge of Parenting & Child Development, Concrete Support in Times of Need, and Social & Emotional Competence of Children will help them to become stronger and more confident caregivers. To learn more about the 5 Protective Factors, all child care professionals have an opportunity to take the Bringing the Protective Factors Framework to Life In Your Work training modules on ProSolutions. Look for the Free version, unless you want to pay for the CEUs:

Child Abuse Prevention

Preventing child abuse requires vigilance, awareness, and proactive efforts from everyone involved in a child’s life. As a preschool care provider, your role in prevention is essential, from creating a nurturing environment to recognizing the signs of abuse and acting when needed. By staying educated, following best practices, and utilizing available resources, you can help ensure that the children in your care grow up in a safe, supportive, and loving environment.

Bubble Fun!

Share this recipe with families for fun at home and for the preschoolers in your care.

8 – Tablespoons of high-quality dish soap (you won’t regret splurging on Joy or Dawn for this recipe)

1 – Quart water

Mix the dish soap and water.

Pour the bubble mix into a shallow dish pan or baking sheet with a rim about 1/2 inch deep and let the fun begin!

Use cans of all sizes to make bubbles. Note: for safety flatten the metal on the rim before use. Restaurants or food services at schools & nursing homes often have large cans. Experiment with any open-ended objects or objects with holes. You may find an array of possibilities at recycling centers. Get the preschoolers involved by asking them what they think will make good bubbles.

Make sure to set ground rules for safety, such as blowing bubbles away from the faces of others. Invite the preschoolers to help establish the safety rules.

Did you ever wish children were born with manuals? We all need a little help from time to time, and your local Family Resource Center is available to support you. They offer free parent education, playgroups, family events, individual support, and more. To find your local Family Resource Center, visit Family Support NH.
