STEPping Stones To Success

💼 The Journey to Summer Internships 💼

ASC's STEP has been hard at work preparing for Summer Internships. Currently in 6 local high schools, the program gives young adults with disabilities, aged 15-21, the opportunity to get a step up into their adult life. The program offers career exploration, social and employability skills training, individualized support, and activities leading up to paid summer internships.

We’re excited to see how they put their skills into action during their internships.

April's ASC Feature

Ever Wonder Where ASC’s “All HeART” Logo Came From?

It's a very special story of one of our resident artists, Mindy Sierra, a Brooklyn native with a life-long love of art who has called ASC home since 1995.

She began painting at the ASC fine arts program in 2001, sharing powerful personal stories through her work. Her first project "Everglades Egret" introduced her to selling her art, and "God's Grace" tells the impactful story of her brain aneurysm at age 11.

Mindy continues to create throughout her years at ASC. In 2011, she created the original series of 8 "POP Hearts" which later became the inspiration behind ASC's current "All Heart. All Ability" logo. The imperfect heart shape, using earth tones, came to represent how each and every one of us on the planet has imperfections, but when we come together as a community and celebrate our abilities, the limits are truly endless.

Today, Mindy continues to create in ASC's Art Program in the Adult Day Training Center. Through hand over hand painting, sculpting, and exploring different mediums Mindy's passion for art does not waiver.

"My explorations of various media and mediums have given me a unique avenue to express myself. Because I’m wheelchair bound, art has made me a stronger person by making me boundless." - Mindy S.
