BIG NEWS FROM ODETTE

I’m retiring!

It is with a heavy heart that I share with you that as of April 30, 2023, The Plant Exchange will close.

15 years ago The Plant Exchange began in my front yard. Each year we expanded until we found our current location on Golf Links Road. I want to personally thank each of you for your support over the years. We could not have done it without our incredibly dedicated volunteers and supporters.

Over the years our concept spawned many other exchanges in the United States, England, New Zealand and South Africa. Last year we exchanged 7000 plants; gifted 200 in-kind donations (plants and supplies) to nonprofits; volunteers served 4800 hours and we diverted 40 cubic yards of waste from the landfill on a monthly basis. This has also been a marvelous way for neighbors to get to know each other and to build stronger communities.

The Plant Exchange has been a wonderful and rewarding experience. Between now and April 30th there will be opportunities for you to stop by and share your thoughts, ask questions and of course, take home a plant! Keep an eye out for announcements of upcoming activities.

After April 30th, I will continue to be available to give advice, help with your exchanges and continue to promote the greening of the Bay Area.

Happy Planting!

THANKS SO MUCH!

The Plant Exchange is a 501(c)(3) non-profit serving the Oakland community since 2007. We encourage sharing resources, reusing materials, reducing landfill waste, and promoting sustainable gardening practices. We support other Bay Area non-profits and community groups by redistributing rescued plants for horticulture education and community beautification projects.
