NEW: Fall Meeting Zoom Links Available

The NAIA Fall Meetings are just around the corner and one advantage of the virtual format is that more members will have access to the general sessions. Below is a list of open sessions, including the zoom link for each one. All session times are Central.

NEW: InCred Webinar October 29th

InCred will host a webinar "The Process: International Documents through InCred to PlayNAIA" on October 29 at 1 p.m. Central. Check here to register for the webinar in preparation for the eligibility center's new policy requirement that all international documents be submitted through InCred starting in January 2021.
Five Star Award Winners Announced

Congratulations to the 180 Champions of Character® Five-Star Institution winners. There were 112 gold winners46 silver winners, and 22 bronze winners. NAIA Champions of Character Five-Star Conference Awards were earned by 16 NAIA Conferences.

The Champions of Character Scorecard measures a commitment to character training, academic focus, character promotion, conduct in competition, and character recognition on a scale of 0-100 points. Award levels are based on the number of points earned: gold (90-100 points), silver (75-89 points) and bronze (60-74 points).   
COVID-19 Updates
NEW: Winter Sports Announcement

The NAIA announced on September 22 that it plans to proceed with winter championships as currently scheduled. This includes not implementing start dates or restricting athletic activities during the holiday break. For the complete announcement, click here.


Six-sport Minimum Waiver

Per the NAIA Bylaws Article I, A, 1c, institutions are required to sponsor six championship sports to maintain NAIA membership. Last Wednesday, the COP Executive Committee approved a recommendation for a one-year waiver for the six-sport requirement. This means that schools sponsoring fewer than six sports in 2020-21 will maintain NAIA membership.


COVID-19 Screener Trainer Course Available

Do you want to use non-healthcare professionals to assist with your game-day COVID screening? The COVID Screener training course is now available and is required to be completed by any non-healthcare professionals before they can conduct game-day screening. To allow your staff access, simply go to NAIAHelp and add the individuals as “COVID Screeners” in your staff profile. Legislative Services will send an email to all ADs and designated COVID Screeners when access is granted. Questions? Contact [email protected].

NEW: Big Game Sports Selected as Official Flag Football of NAIA
The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced that Big Game Sports/Team Issue has secured the rights as the "Official Ball of Women's Flag Football." The deal will expand the NAIA's existing relationship with the company. The newly-signed, three-year deal will make Big Game the official provider of both NAIA football championships.

Eligibility Center
NEW: October 1 Reminders

  • Annual cancellations will begin for students with fall 2020 applications for fall sports.
  • Students who wish to take advantage of the CFAR exception to the reapplication requirement must have submitted their PlayNAIA application before October 1 to ensure a fall 2020 term for determination. Students who wait to submit their register to play or payment tasks on or after October 1 will have their term for determination automatically set to Spring 2021.

NEW: Natural Disasters & Submitting Transcripts
 
If a student’s high school or previous college(s) are unable to submit transcripts or fee waivers due to recent and ongoing natural disasters (e.g. wildfires or hurricanes), please have the affected school contact [email protected] for a possible exception.

If the high school or college is unable to contact us directly, a representative from your institution may email [email protected] with the subject line: “Natural Disaster Exception.” Please include documentation that the institution is currently closed and/or unable to fulfill transcripts at this time. The eligibility center will make every effort to help students move forward in the eligibility process. However, please note that exceptions will be reviewed on a per school basis and are not guaranteed to be approved.
Championships
NEW: NAIA Women's Beach Volleyball Invitational Accepting Host Site Bids
The bid process is now open to host both the 2022 and 2023 NAIA Women’s Beach Volleyball National Invitational.
The women’s beach volleyball national invitational is a five-day event that culminates in the crowning of the invitational champions for the year. The event expects to attract approximately 150 student-athletes and between 500 and 1,000 fans. Click here for more details.

2020 Proposed Legislation and FAQs

New FAQs are available regarding the 2020 legislative proposals, all of which will be voted on at the virtual business meeting on Tuesday, October 6. Videos explaining the proposed legislation are available, as well as the opportunity to offer feedback on the legislative forum. Please note that these are the same proposals that were shared last March; only effective dates have been adjusted.

2020-21 Handbook Released

The 2020-21 Official & Policy Handbook has been released. This is the first version of the handbook. The bylaws will be updated after the business meeting on October 6. Keep an eye out for more updates next month.
