Waste Collection Update
Due to union activity beyond Republic Services’ control last week, there was a delay in waste collection services for residential and commercial/industrial customers. The City worked with Republic Services to provide timely updates to customers and offer roll-off containers at multiple locations to assist with critical customers in need of immediate service. Operations have resumed and there will be a one to two day service delay for many customers. We request that you place all your carts out and Republic will collect any extra bags of trash that you place outside with your cart. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. If you have any questions regarding your service, please contact Republic Services at (714) 847-3581.

Marine Safety Report
Summer Beach Update
With summer in full swing, our lifeguards have been working tirelessly to ensure beachgoers can enjoy the ocean safely. Their vigilance and commitment have been especially important in light of recent developments.
Shark Sightings in Neighboring Areas
Our neighbors to the south in Huntington Beach reported two shark sightings over the past two weeks. One involved a 9-foot shark, prompting the temporary closure of two miles of beach in accordance with the regional shark policy. The second sighting occurred near Sunset Beach and was identified as a non-aggressive juvenile white shark. As it posed no immediate threat, no beach closure was necessary, though officials remained watchful—particularly with the proximity to Surfside.
Junior Lifeguard Activities
Our Junior Lifeguards recently enjoyed a day trip to Catalina Island, where they hiked, snorkeled, and swam in the beautiful waters near Two Harbors. The experience was a great blend of adventure, education, and physical fitness. The Junior Lifeguard team is now in the process of selecting participants for the California Junior Lifeguard State Championship.
Lifeguard Isaiah Osorio’s Recovery
On July 14th, Isaiah Osorio, the lifeguard who sustained a cervical spinal injury, was transferred to a specialized facility for spinal cord rehabilitation. We continue to support Isaiah on his road to recovery and are inspired by his strength and resilience.
