Trinity's Mission and Outreach Ministry suggests an Easter offering to benefit those who depend on Amos House, The Road to Home as a path to their successful future.

Road to Home at Amos House, Danbury is dedicated to breaking the cycle of homelessness by ensuring that our female residents have the opportunity to achieve the competencies required for permanent self-sufficient independent living. We are well aware that each individual in our program has a unique story and subsequently unique need. Road to Home at Amos House is focused on customizing programming to nurture life skills, job skills and coping skills that will ultimately serve to help residents successfully launch themselves and their children in to the life that they deserve.

Please give generously either by check (memo: Road to Home), cash or online.

Take up your cross, the Savior said, if you would my disciples be; take up your cross with willing heart, and humbly follow after me. Take up your cross; let not its weight fill your weak spirit with alarm; Christ’s strength shall bear your spirit up and brace your heart and nerve your arm. Take up your cross, heed not the shame, and let your foolish pride be still, the Lord for you accepted death upon a cross on Calvary’s hill. Take up your cross, then, in Christ’s strength, and calmly every danger brave; it guides you to abundant life and leads to victory o’er the grave.

Preparing Our Hearts and Voices for the Weeks Ahead

It’s incredible to realize that we are over the halfway point in Lent! As we reach this midpoint, our Thursday night choir rehearsals are now deep in the music of Holy Week and its powerful anthems that will carry us from the “Hosannas” of Palm Sunday, to the loneliness in the garden of Gesthemane, to the sorrow of the cross and, finally, to the triumphant joy of Easter morning. It’s a LOT of music, and the choir’s dedication is truly inspiring as they pour their hearts and souls into every note and phrase, perfecting each song and knowing that their voices will be leading the congregation through the most profound moments in our faith. From the haunting strains of O Sacred Head, Sore Wounded on Good Friday to the exciting group singalong of the Hallelujah Chorus on Easter morning, each piece has been chosen to enrich our worship and deepen our experience of the Passion and Resurrection.

The music in the coming weeks is not only beautiful, but it also tells the story of Christ’s journey to the cross. This week, the choir will sing an invitation for you to take up your own cross and follow Christ, in our anthem “Take Up Your Cross”. Its message is that we must journey as disciples of Christ and trust in him to give us the strength and courage to brave our fears and trials along the way.

As you continue on the Lenten path, keep your ears and hearts open so that you may encounter the depth of God’s love and sacrifice in a new and powerful way.

In Christ,

Jennifer

The Mary Hawley Public Service Award was established to promote volunteerism by honoring an individual who, through lengthy and exceptional public service to Newtown, best represents the selfless commitment and spirit of Newtown’s beloved benefactress, Mary Elizabeth Hawley.

The recipient of the Mary Hawley Public Service Award will be recognized for their contributions to Newtown by having their name listed on a plaque at Edmond Town Hall, as well as receiving a personalized memento to commemorate the achievement. In addition, Newtown Savings Bank will donate $1,000 to a Newtown-based nonprofit of the recipient’s choosing.

The award serves two functions:

1. It will serve as an annual reminder to the Newtown community of the remarkable contributions that Mary Hawley made to Newtown. She alone is single-handedly responsible for much of Newtown’s treasured infrastructure — the library, town hall, Hawley School, Newtown Village Cemetery, the Soldiers and Sailor’s Monument. It is truly an astounding legacy that should be and now will be formally remembered every year.

2. The award will serve as a vehicle for promoting volunteerism by recognizing prolonged, outstanding individual commitment to selflessly serving the community and its citizens.

If you know anyone who you think deserves to be considered for this prestigious recognition, please submit a completed nomination form available online or pick up a hard copy nomination form at the following locations: C. H. Booth Library, Newtown Bee, Newtown Senior Center and Newtown Community Center, which will be available March 3, 2025. The nomination period will open on March 3, 2025 and close on May 2, 2025.
