Contribution and Virtual Offering Plate
We are thankful to parishioners who pledge and are mailing their checks directly to the Transfiguration office, or have set up auto payment from your bank. It is very helpful that we continue income at this time as we seek to create connections to each other and maintain parish life. If you are not a pledger at Transfig, please do use our ‘virtual offering plate’ on the front page of our website to make a contribution to our work as you are able.

Happy Birthday

Announcing The Ven. Hailey McKeefry Delmas
Dear Friends in Christ,

The Diocese of California announced that our deacon, Hailey McKeefry Delmas, has been appointed Archdeacon for the Diocese. In her new role, Hailey will be pastorally supporting the diocese's deacons and assisting Bishop Marc with communications and other diaconal duties and related activities. We now have two Archdeacons, the Ven. Nina Pickerell and now the Ven. Hailey. Of course, you might be wondering what this means to Transfiguration and Epiphany. Practically speaking, Hailey will continue in her role as deacon. However, Hailey may be away on certain Sundays, assisting the Bishop and the Diocese. We are blessed that Hailey will continue to serve with us as our deacon. Our congratulations go out to Hailey. Also, please offer your prayers for Hailey as she begins this new ministry.

Yours in Christ,
Bob+
Digital Access Drive for LatinX/Hispanic Churches in our diocese

Dear Friends in Christ,
Many of our congregations experienced the impact of the pandemic. Some, with fewer resources, felt the challenges that sheltering in place brought more severely than others. In our last Clergy meeting with Bishop Marc, we listened to the Rev. Liz Muñoz as she described the particular challenges of our diocese's LatinX/Hispanic churches. The diocese's clergy agreed to help keep the Latino/a/e church communities digitally connected until everyone can gather in person again. I believe this a vital outreach to churches facing the digital divide.

Rev. Muñoz named four congregations, Santisima Trinidad, Saint James/Santiago, Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, and El Buen Pastor, need 40 tablets or other devices for her congregants to participate in our online ministries. With monetary donations that come in, Rev. Muñoz plans the purchase new Chromebooks priced at $200.00 each. Her communities are also looking for any donated tablets or computers that will support the Zoom app. The starting goal is to provide devices for 40 households in their four Latinx/Hispanic churches. Any additional funds raised will go toward improved hardware and bandwidth for our Wi-Fi networks. Each church can then provide internet access points for their respective communities. They set a deadline of March 5th to start purchasing these devices, so I am asking if Transfiguration's members can help these churches in this time of need.

You can make a financial contribution at https://www.paypal.com/donate?hosted_button_id=FYLPSDCRHXJFW. A button allows you to determine how you would like this donation to be used. You can press this button and scroll to Digital Access Drive.
You can also donate by mailing a check to:
St. James
1540 12th Avenue
Oakland, CA 94606
Please note "Digital Access Drive" in the memo

If you would like to donate a device, please contact Deacon Laura Eberly (leberly@gmail.com or 603.545.5039) to arrange contactless pickup for any devices you wish to donate.

Thank you for considering this important outreach.
Lenten Blessings,
Bob+
Wednesday Lenten Series
Life Transformed:
The Way of Love in Lent

We are offering a new Lenten Series that uses The Way of Love as a Lenten framework. We will take a journey through Lent to Easter and reflect on God’s loving actions. Like the Easter Vigil, we will walk through our salvation history as reflected in Holy Scripture.

This week Michele Charles will lead the session. All are invited to join any and all of the following sessions:
Mar 3 - PRAY: Israel’s Deliverance at the Red Sea (Exodus 14:10-15:1)
Mar 10 - LEARN: Learn Wisdom and Live (Proverbs 8:1-8, 19-21; 9:4b-6)
Mar 17- BLESS: A New Heart and a New Spirit (Ezekiel 36:24-28)
Mar 24 -REST: The Valley of Dry Bones (Ezekiel 37:1-14)
Mar 31 -WORSHIP: The Gathering of God’s People (Zephaniah 3:12-20)

During each session we will have a brief check-in, show a short video and read the recommended text, sit in quiet meditation and reflect on what we saw, heard and read, and end with a discussion.

Join us on Wednesday evenings:

Rector Search Survey - Last Chance!
The first part of our search process includes writing a parish profile, and in order to do that well, we need to get a sense of what the congregation believes are our current strengths and what vision we have for the future. We are very committed to listening to everyone who wants to share ideas and have been working hard to figure out the best way to do that despite pandemic restrictions.

Thanks to all who have already completed the survey! The survey will close on Sunday.
If you have not yet had a chance to do so, please help us by going to this link to complete the survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/transfigrectorsearch

Your thoughts matter to us!

Readers! Join us in reading and discussing The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison
When: Saturday, March 20
Time: 3:00-4:30pm

From the back of the book: In Morrison’s bestselling first novel, Pecola Breedlove—an 11-year-old Black girl in an America whose love for its blond, blue-eyed children can devastate all others—prays for her eyes to turn blue: so that she will be beautiful, so that people will look at her, so that her world will be different. This is the story of the nightmare at the heart of her yearning, and the tragedy of its fulfillment.

Here is the link to purchase the book at a local, independent bookstore in San Mateo: https://shop.reachandteach.com/book/9780307278449

We had so many great recommendations! Thanks to all who recommended books. The next book we will read will be Hungry Hearts: Essays on Courage, Desire, and Belonging; Edited by Jennifer Rudolph Walsh and will discuss it after the Easter holiday.
Flowering Easter Cross 2021
Last year for Easter we created a Covid friendly flowering Easter cross with beautiful flowers colored by parishioners. As we again prepare for Easter during the pandemic we are growing our Easter cross! Noreen has created a 3-D flower for us to color, cut and fold into a special Easter flower. Print the flower project PDF below and color it at home using whatever materials you have available. Before you cut and fold it, take a picture or scan of the flat, colored sheet and email it to office@transfig-sm.org. We will print and turn them into 3-D flowers that will grow our Easter cross.

Art is always more fun when done in community. Join us on Saturday, March 13 at 4 pm in the Faith Formation zoom room to color and create Easter flowers together. Print your project sheet, gather your art supplies and meet us on zoom for a relaxing hour of coloring and conversation.

No need to wait until March 13 to color your flowers. You can get started now and create as many flowers as you like. Please remember to send the photos to us. The more flowers we receive, the more our cross will grow and become a beautiful symbol of new life.
Click here (or on the image) to download the pdf for this year's paper flower project.

If you would prefer to have flower project sheets sent to you, please email Noreen at office@transfig-sm.org.
