The Second Sunday of Advent

The spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him: a spirit of wisdom and of understanding, a spirit of counsel and of strength, a spirit of knowledge and of fear of the LORD, and his delight shall be the fear of the LORD. Not by appearance shall he judge, nor by hearsay shall he decide, but he shall judge the poor with justice, and decide aright for the land’s afflicted. He shall strike the ruthless with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips he shall slay the wicked. Justice shall be the band around his waist, and faithfulness a belt upon his hips. Then the wolf shall be a guest of the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; the calf and the young lion shall browse together, with a little child to guide them. The cow and the bear shall be neighbors, together their young shall rest; the lion shall eat hay like the ox. The baby shall play by the cobra’s den, and the child lay his hand on the adder’s lair. There shall be no harm or ruin on all my holy mountain; for the earth shall be filled with knowledge of the LORD, as water covers the sea. On that day, the root of Jesse, set up as a signal for the nations, the Gentiles shall seek out, for his dwelling shall be glorious.  ~Isaiah 11

From The Pastor

Dear Parishioners and Friends,

On this Second Sunday of Advent, we read about John the Baptist in the desert proclaiming the words, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!” It was of him that the prophet Isaiah had spoken when he said: A voice of one crying out in the desert, "Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths.” John wore simple clothing made of camel’s hair and a leather belt strapped around his waist. His diet consisted only of locusts and wild honey but his words had a powerful effect; people were coming to him from all over Jerusalem, Judea, and the region around the Jordan.

Be sure to check the bulletin for the upcoming Christmas schedule and other announcements. Here are some additional announcements and highlights:

Rejoice! Rejoice!

Rejoice! Rejoice with us as we prayerfully celebrate the 43 children of our Parish and School who celebrated the Sacrament of Reconciliation on December 3rd!

These children worked hard during the fall to prepare to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation. They learned about God’s love for them and how His forgiveness isn’t just something He wants to give us, but something we need to ask for. A special thank you to our Catechists, Erica Schmitz, and Christine Bondi who helped these children on their journey to seek forgiveness. We would also like to thank Father Gonyo and Father Davis for joining us during our preparation. Please continue to keep these children in prayer as we begin to prepare them for the celebration of First Eucharist after the holidays.

Please contact Anna Steele with any questions or concerns,

anna.steele@dor.org or 338-1146.

Sharing Saint Stories

How has praying with the saints had an impact on your spiritual life and relationship with God?

How has your Confirmation saint continued to influence your prayer and faith life since you were confirmed?

Please share your story! Our teens would love to hear about a saint who has been important to you, especially since your Confirmation, and the role they have played in your faith journey. It could be your confirmation saint, or a different saint who has played a significant role for you.

Give it some thought! You could write it as a general  letter to confirmation teen, or as a personal reflection, or any other way you would like. I will share your stories anonymously (unless you would like to be identified) with the teens as they explore the saints, praying with the saints, and choose their confirmation saints.

We would like to use these stories in our Confirmation preparation sessions, so if you are willing to share, please email your story to Christine.bondi@dor.org!

Giving Tree

We are collecting food for 45 families and gifts for 343 individuals referred to us by the House of Mercy, The Villa of Hope and St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish.

For the week of December 3rd and 4th we will be collecting: personal items (toiletries), toothpaste, toothbrushes, bath soap, dish soap and laundry detergent. December 3rd and 4th will also be the last call for any previous items that you forgot to bring during the previous weeks.

Giving Tree Gift tag requests are now available in Church and online.

You can access the online list at

https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0D4BAFAA2DA0F8C07-saint2

The 2nd option to find the link is at

https://www.Signupgenius.com/findasignup

and enter the creator’s email:

moll.donna@gmail.com

Please remember to complete the yellow tag attached to the “gift tag” with your name and phone number. Place your completed yellow tag in the basket near the Giving Tree.

This will help us identify who has each “gift tag”.

There are two easy ways to contribute to the Giving Tree Program:

1. A monetary donation by check or cash. This will help pay for the fresh food included in the food baskets.

2. A gift card donation from Target or Walmart. Please write the amount of the gift card donation on the gift card itself. These gift cards will be given to those who did not receive a wrapped gift.

*Please put your donations of cash, checks and gift card donations in an envelope clearly marked “Giving Tree Donation” and place it in the collection basket.

**You may also mail checks and gift cards to the Saint Kateri Parish Office at 445 Kings Highway South, Rochester NY 14617.
