Helping Needy Families Have A Brighter Future

HELP GIVE HOPE'S
FALL FRENZY!

From now until Christmas, it's a sprint at Help Give Hope. Beyond our daily, constant work with children & families-in-crisis, we're juggling several major fundraising activities (The Longest Table, the year's final garage sale and our charity golf tourney) and preparing for our nearly three month long major Christmas project. Hardly time to catch our breath! Hard work for our staff and volunteers but fun and so rewarding! Let's take a quick look at what lies ahead.
THE LONGEST TABLE

Last Thursday, September 2nd, The Longest Table was held at The Barley House at Moon Town Crossing. A fantastic evening of friends, fellowship, food and fun. We will publish more detail and results in our October newsletter. Thank you to all who attended and supported HGH through this great event. And a special thank you to Pat Duran and his staff at Retro Metro for the amazing food and wines!!
OUR FINAL GARAGE SALE OF 2021

This Friday and Saturday will conclude our 2021 garage sale season! It's our biggest and most important sale of the year not only for the fundraising potential but because the warehouse must be empty shortly thereafter so we can begin preparation for our Christmas project. For this sale, we live by the motto "everything must go!". The warehouse is packed and our incredible volunteer army has worked through heat and long days to receive, sort, place and price tens of thousands of items. If you enjoy shopping for top quality merchandise at garage sale prices, please head to the warehouse this Friday or Saturday!

We are no longer accepting garage sale donations and will not begin again until the 2nd week of January, 2022. However, we are always open to donations of quality furniture & appliances. Call Murray at 417-209-7027 with questions.

IN HONOR OF TWO SPECIAL FRIENDS
by Jim Crumpley

This month I wanted to spotlight two special people who have done so much for Help Give Hope and, much of it behind the scenes and underappreciated. John Wyrsch has, for better or worse, become our Christmastime Director of Warehouse Operations. As HGH has grown so has the need for an ever-increasing amount of bedding, bikes, tables, chairs, appliances, etc., and someone has to coordinate all of that. John has been more or less "in charge" for decades and although we are blessed with many volunteers, John's been the one who has constantly looked for ways to improve how we do things. Most of you know about the Christmas program but as things have become more year-round, the needs don't stop there. Conservatively HGH has an annual expense budget of over $500,000 and someone has to figure out how the best way to spend that money is. That guy is John and other than running over the front table with a fork lift a couple of years ago, he has compiled a pretty impressive accident-free record and we appreciate all he does.

A majority of the people who benefit from HGH, pick up their items at the warehouse. For some folks , they might have a car, but getting all of their stuff in there is problematic if not impossible. For years, we've had volunteers who helped tie things down which helped but there are only so many mattresses and bikes you can pile on top of the roof of a car. While the tie-down crew does a great job, there is always the danger of items falling off the roof and causing injury - or worse. That problem has been solved compliments of Rod Loomer who has developed a program in partnership with U-Haul rentals. Now people can sign up for a U-Haul truck and have lots of room for everything from presents, to washers, dryers, bunk beds, sofas, etc. Some of the tie downs were real works of art and it's a wonder some of them even got out of the parking lot.

USED CAR PROGRAM

Help Give Hope has one of the largest used car gifting programs in the Midwest. To families without reliable transportation, receiving a good used car is life changing! It's one of our most important and rewarding programs. However, the cost and availability of used cars has become an increasing obstacle. Please consider donating your used vehicle!!

Pictured is Brittany Littles and her daughter Madison beside
her 2011 Hyundai. In partnership with Youngblood Nisson/Kia and Managing Partner, John Widiger, we are able to purchase used cars (when available) at affordable prices.

Call Murray at 417-209-7027 with any questions or should you wish to make a vehicle donation.
