September e-Grapevine

TRUSTEES CORNER

We hope our students, teachers, administrators and their families have had a great start back to school! Remember, as Albert Einstein said, “Education is not the learning of facts, but the training of the mind to think.” Best wishes for a wonderful school year!

This summer, our service department has been working diligently on our roads to ensure they will be safe and durable before the winter. The following roads were resurfaced this year: Stonewyke, Nature View, Brian, David, Breezewood, Conley, Clearlake and Ridgewater. Our crews replaced over 550 yards of concrete in our concrete slab replacement program which extends the life of our concrete roads. Durapatching took place throughout the township on ten different roads. This program also extends the service life of asphalt roads.

The Service Department also took delivery of a new backhoe/loader for the township which will enhance our ditching operations for roadside maintenance, make moving materials easier, and assist in the removal of downed trees in emergency situations throughout the township.

The Service Department teamed up with the Recreation Department to enhance the new pickleball courts with benches and a court divider. It’s nice to see many residents who have been enjoying the courts! Concord has some very talented and skilled pickleball players.

We recently received a grant from the State for the installation of a new restroom facility to be built at Town Hall. The planned restroom facility will be located next to the pavilion at Town Hall Park. This restroom will serve everyone utilizing the ballfields, playground, and pickleball courts. It is available during spring, summer, and fall months for those making use of the Town Hall grounds. Additionally, the Community Center just received a new coat of paint and looks great.

A resident-requested access point to the Greenway Corridor from Concord Town Hall is set to be installed in Sept-Oct. by Lake Metroparks. This access point will provide greater convenience and access to the trail and allow people to walk the corridor while their child is participating in events at Town Hall such as baseball/softball practice.

Overall, it has been a very productive summer. We’d like to thank our Service Department for all of the work they have accomplished with improving our roads. Without a doubt, our team puts forth great effort and hard work each day. So this Labor Day, we would like to thank the entire Concord Township team. We hope everyone has a relaxing, safe and enjoyable holiday.

May your September be filled with good thoughts, kind people and happy moments!

Thank you garden club

Concord Township extends its heartfelt gratitude to the lovely ladies of the Concord Garden Club for the year-round beautification of Concord Township properties, including Town Hall, the Community Center, the Concord Cemetery and township parks. They tenderly care for plants and flowers every day, and nurture the beautiful blooms throughout the spring and summer. They add vibrancy to Township properties in the Fall with more colorful plants, and beautifully decorate for the Holidays to ensure township properties are delightfully festive and welcoming.

A special Garden Club Community Days Committee also worked closely with Craig Cormack of the Maple Ridge Garden Center and Nursery (on the corner of Concord Hambden and Ravenna Roads), to select and grow the lovely plants that decorated the main tent at our Bicentennial Community Days in August. The voodoo lilies were especially stunning in the large pots around the stage. Thank you!

Thank you Concord Alliance Church

Concord Alliance Church, at 7152 Ravenna Road, generously hosted the awesome Kid’s World area during our Bicentennial Community Days in August. Thanks to Pastor Bryon, his lovely wife Vicki, events coordinator Patti and all of the wonderful parishioners who volunteered their time to make Kid’s World a resounding success. Thanks for generously donating all the toys and prizes, too! Concord Alliance Church has been a big part of Community Days for several years, and Concord Township is grateful to the church and members for all they do!

FIRE DEPARTMENT

In building construction,’ topping off’ is a builders’ rite traditionally held when the last beam is placed atop a structure during construction. A small evergreen tree and an American flag often adorn the beam. Another custom is to sign the beam. On August 3,rd the steel for the new fire station training tower was moved on site and installation of the tower began. We have had the privilege of signing our names to the last beam of the training tower – all ready for our top off!
