As we look forward to the Labor Day weekend, a quote from Sophocles comes to mind, “Without labor, nothing prospers.” We are fortunate that our residents and employees are very hard working people. That can be seen in many areas of our Township. Notably, our annual road projects are nearing completion. The service department will continue with patching and concreting areas needing repair into October.
Additionally, we are planning to go to bid in November for a water line project which will provide public water from Auburn to Hermitage and from Stonewyck to Ravennna roads. Currently, there is not public water in these areas and the well water is not up to par. Concord Township has received a $1m grant from the County Commissioners for this project. The remainder will be funded with American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) dollars. We anticipate project completion by spring of 2024.
Despite the rain, Concord Community Days turned out to be a fantastic event. A huge congratulations goes out to Concord Township 2023 Citizen of the Year, James Rowe! James is an amazing friend, neighbor and citizen of our township. Thank you for contributing so much to our beautiful community.

Assistant Zoning Inspector Job Opening
As the Concord Township Assistant Zoning Inspector, you will work with residents, developers and business owners to fairly administer the zoning resolution. The Zoning office reviews zoning permit applications for new construction, homes, building additions, and other accessory uses – which is a great way to stay up to date with what is going on in the Township.
With this position no two days are the same. On a typical day you will split your time in the office assisting homeowners, developers or builders get their building projects approved, or you will be driving around the Township inspecting new homes or buildings. The Assistant Zoning Inspector will also work with residents and business owners to resolve any zoning violations or complaints regarding their use of property.
To succeed in this role, you must have strong customer service skills, be highly detailed and organized, and be able to interpret rules and regulations to identify items that don’t comply with the resolution. You will be doing inspections outside, so it is important that you enjoy being outside. The ideal candidate is able to set and maintain efficient schedules, balance field and office work, and enjoy a team environment. The position works between 30 and 35 hours per week, depending on workload and staff schedules. You must possess and retain a valid Ohio driver’s license. Experience or education in planning, development, code enforcement, or zoning compliance. An understanding of zoning is preferred.

Concord Township Fire Department is teaming up with the National Fire Protection Association®- the official sponsor of Fire Prevention Week™ (FPW) for more than 100 years – to promote this year’s FPW campaign, “Cooking safety starts with YOU. Pay attention to fire prevention™”.
Throughout the months of September and October, our firefighters will reach out to over 1,300 children in day cares, preschools, kindergarten and Grades 1 & 2. Along with information on cooking safety, our programs will touch on home escape planning, smoke alarms and personal fire safety such as stop drop and roll.
We will introduce a firefighter in full turn out gear and tour our engines and ambulances. Please ask your children about their visits by our firefighters and review the safety materials they bring home.
In addition to school programs, information on safe cooking practices is available from our website: https://concordtwp.com/departments/fire/fire-education/.
