FROM THE CHIEF'S DESK
The Concord Fire Department extends our heartfelt thanks to everyone who joined us for our Pancake Breakfast on August 10th, kicking off Concord Community Day! We were thrilled to serve a record number of diners, and many of you also took the opportunity to tour our fire station. We hope you also caught the action at the Community Softball Tournament, where our Concord Firefighters showcased their skills.
A special congratulations to Retired Fire Chief Mike Warner, who was recognized as the Concord Township Citizen of the Year for 2024! We are grateful for Mike’s years of dedicated service to the Concord Township Fire Department and his continued commitment to our community even after retirement.
As our students return to school, we wish them a successful and safe new year. We want to remind all drivers to stay vigilant, especially when approaching stopped school buses and driving through school zones. Let's work together to keep our children safe.
Thank you for your patience during the recent storms. Our team responded to 32 calls related to downed wires and trees. Despite the challenging weather, ‘A’ shift also handled two heart attacks and one stroke. We are proud of our team's dedication and resilience in keeping our community safe.
Mark your calendars! We are looking forward to hosting the Concord Township Fall Festival on Saturday, October 26th, from 10:00 to 11:30 AM. Please refer to the Recreation Department report for more details.
Concord Fire is pleased to announce that we have been awarded just over $74,000 from FEMA’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant to allow us to replace 2 of our heart monitors that are no longer serviceable. We have also been awarded almost $3,400 from the Ohio Department of Public Safety Division of EMS for other medical equipment.
In addition to emergency services, Concord Township Fire has been active in the community, providing education and support in various ways:
- We partnered with Painesville Township Fire Department to provide fire extinguisher training to 70 faculty and staff at Riverside High School.
- Our American Red Cross Babysitting Class continues to thrive, with nearly 70 youngsters trained so far.
- We held a community CPR/AED class for 16 adults.
- We hosted a two-day IAFF Peer Support Class sponsored by the Ohio Fire Chiefs’ Association.
- We welcomed special visitors from Spark Specialized Services, offering them a glimpse into the life of a firefighter.
- We joined the First Baptist Church on Johnnycake Ridge Rd. for lunch and emergency equipment demonstration for about 45 children and adults.
In 2024, 35% of our call volume has been overlapping, meaning multiple emergencies are occurring simultaneously. This demands adequate staffing and reliable response equipment, which underscores the importance of the upcoming Fire Operations Levy this November. Concord Township Fire remains dedicated to providing the best emergency services for our community.
If you have any questions regarding the upcoming levy or about Concord Fire Department, we encourage you to reach out to the Fire Chief, a Township Trustee, the Fiscal Officer, or the Administrator.
