Everybody Wins DC September Newsletter
Summer is Over, School is in Full Swing,
and EWDC Programs are in Motion!
This month we crossed a major milestone – over 200 volunteers signed up to serve as EWDC volunteers during the 2020-2021 school year. Thank you! Haven’t signed up yet and want to participate in this year’s virtual volunteer opportunities? Click here to get started today!

Here is another important way you can support children through shared reading: participate in this year’s EWDC Back to School Campaign. Just $25 will help put books in the hands of children. Or become a monthly donor and have your impact last all year long! Even better is that every donation gets us one step closer to unlocking our Board-sponsored match of $3,000. We’re just $600 away from our goal!
Thank You to Our Sponsors!
EWDC would like to thank our sponsors and grantors Rotary Foundations of Washington, DC, Nora Roberts Foundation, AT&T, Altria, Florida Sugar Cane League and American Petroleum Institute whose invaluable support supplements shared reading programs and services for children throughout the school year.

2020-2021 Program Offerings

These opportunities and experiences will offer supportive, fun, and informative ways to stay engaged through reading while learning from home.

Back to School Campaign
The Back to School campaign is off to a tremendous start thanks to you! We met – and exceeded - our first match within just a few hours. Now, our generous Board of Directors have issued another match challenge to help us raise even more to support our students.

If we raise at least $3,000 this month, our amazing Board will personally match that amount bringing the total to $6,000. Are you up for the challenge? We are only $600 away from securing the match!

Amazon Fall Book Drive
EWDC has always believed that getting books into the hands of kids is critically important. But now, with students engaged in distance learning and on computers and tablets most of their days, physical books in the home are more important than ever.

To expand our distribution library, EWDC is partnering with Amazon is partnering with EWDC to help collect brand new books for our students this school year. Now through September 28 visit the Amazon bookstore in Georgetown or Bethesda to participate in the fall book drive.

Not sure what students are reading? No problem! Amazon is highlighting 5 titles that will be specially discounted for customers to donate, listed below:

We also have a wishlist of titles personally curated by students in our program.

EWDC on NBC4
In-person reading programs may not happen this year, but EWDC is focused on keeping kids connected while learning from home. Executive Director, Jordi Hutchinson spoke with NBC4 about the climate for extracurricular and enrichment activities and the EWDC's move to virtual programming.

Supporting Local Communities
Through our Book Project program, EWDC donated over 400 books to new partner, Edgewood/Brookland Family Support Collaborative!

The books were part of a two-day book giveaway to children residing in the Edgewood Commons community complex.
Financial Literacy StoryTime
This summer, EWDC partnered with financial services company, Charles Schwab to lead a virtual StoryTime for kids and workshop for parents on financial literacy that explored topics of saving, earning and planning for the future.
Ways to Support Everybody Wins DC
Sharing Stories Virtually
Homebound because of “social distancing,” but still looking for ways to give back to your community? Read stories to children virtually by participating in our Shared Reading Library program.

Give the Gift of Books
You can help EWDC bring the power of shared reading to more students, schools, and communities by hosting your own Book Drive.

Anyone can host a book drive!
Book drives can be done through work, book clubs, fraternities, sororities, church groups, etc. EWDC provides all necessary logistical support and supplemental materials you need to get it done.
