“American Dirt”
Saturday, September 23 at 3:30 p.m.
Location: Bush Hall
The September meeting of the Sacred Spaces Book Club is Saturday, 9/23 at 3:30pm. All are invited to attend the 5pm Quiet Service afterwards. We will be discussing American Dirt by Jeannine Cummins. Lydia lives in Acapulco. She has a son, Luca, the love of her life, and a wonderful husband who is a journalist. And while cracks are beginning to show in Acapulco because of the cartels, Lydia's life is, by and large, fairly comfortable. But after her husband's tell-all profile of the newest drug lord is published, none of their lives will ever be the same. Forced to flee, Lydia and Luca find themselves joining the countless people trying to reach the United States. Lydia soon sees that everyone is running from something. But what exactly are they running to?

On climate change and Indigenous peoples with guest editor James Rattling Leaf, Sr.
This month, James Rattling Leaf is my guest editor. He’s a citizen of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe and Tribal Engagement Specialist for the North Central Climate Adaptation Science Center (NC CASC). I’ve been involved with the South Central CASC for many years -- there’s a Department of Interior-funded CASC in each region of the U.S. -- and that’s how we originally connected.
|
|
Through his work at the Wolakota Lab, James supports Indigenous peoples’ nation rebuilding efforts through the application of traditional ecological knowledge and Western science. He’s an expert on how to combine the strength of these two knowledge systems to tackle climate change.
He has over 25 years of experience helping the U.S. government, higher education institutions, and nonprofits develop effective working relationships with American Indian tribes and Indigenous communities. James is also a founding member of the Group on Earth Observations Indigenous Alliance, which seeks to protect Indigenous cultural heritage by using earth observation science, data, and technology.
Take it away, James! [...]

Faithful Giving
Please help us to keep our mission and ministry strong. St. Paul's staff, operations, community outreach, and our missions to help the most vulnerable are dependent on Sunday offerings to keep afloat. When Sunday offerings decrease, our missions become at risk.
Safe and secure online giving on our website - St. Paul's has a safe and secure electronic donation service available allowing you to make single donations or set up recurring donations. Click the button below to visit our donation page:

Mail - If you prefer to send your pledge or other donation by check, please send your contribution to: St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 188 S. Swinton Avenue, Delray Beach, FL 33444.

Strengthening Ministries for Tomorrow’s Faithful
To ensure that the work of St. Paul’s lives on, remember St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in your estate planning. With a gift in your will, trust, or in some other way, you can make a lasting impact on those served through the mission and ministry of St. Paul’s.
One sentence in your will can make a lasting difference to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. To leave a gift in your will, simply share this sentence with your attorney or financial planner:
“I hereby bequeath to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Delray Beach, FL, the sum of $ (or % of my estate) to support its mission and ministry (or to the Legacy Fund of the Endowment Fund.)”
To talk with a member of the Endowment Fund Board about how you can continue to support the mission and ministry of St. Paul’s with a legacy gift, please contact Caren Kilpatrick, our Parish Administrator, at 561-276-4541 or caren@stpaulsdelray.org.
