Children's Disaster Services Deploys to LA Fires | |
At the request of the Red Cross, volunteers with the Church of the Brethren Children's Disaster Services have deployed to assist children in the wake of the deadly fires in and around Los Angeles, California. A team of seven trained volunteers left yesterday and a second team of seven will travel in the coming days.
Children's Disaster Services provides a calming influence for children in the aftermath of a disaster. When children are placed in the safe care of these volunteers, families can spend time seeking assistance through governmental agencies or assessing and responding to their losses.

Jan. 29: The Brethren & Mennonite Heritage Center invites you to attend a lecture to commemorate the 500th anniversary of Anabaptism at 7 p.m. at Harrisonburg Mennonite Church. John D. Roth will give a lecture entitled “They Went Out From Us, But They Were Not of Us:” The Gift and the Challenge of Church Unity in the Anabaptist Tradition. Professor Roth’s talk will focus on the challenge of unity and schism across the 500 years of our tradition, with a view to making sense of the "unraveling" of the denominational forms of church that we seem to be experiencing in the 21st century. A question and answer session will follow the presentation. Congregational singing, led by Nathan May, will open and close the evening. A freewill offering will be taken.

CGI Class Provides Additional CEU Option | |
The next CGI course, Ministerial Leadership, is scheduled for January 18, February 8, and February 22. Attending this course qualifies students to earn 1.6 CEUs. Download the syllabus here and the registration form here.
Registration is $100, and the audit cost is $25 for each course audited. Students who choose to audit the class will purchase the book, complete the assigned readings, attend the classes, and participate in the discussion. Auditing students are not required to submit assigned papers or projects. Contact Office Assistant Sarah Long for more information.
