Governor Terry McAuliffe announced today that Virginia is one of the newest members of the TechHire initiative, a White House program that aims to meet national employer demands by partnering with states and localities to create sustainable pathways to the workforce, specifically for under-served populations.
Through its participation in TechHire, the Commonwealth committed to filling an estimated 74,000 computer-related jobs over the next eight years. To meet this demand, work is underway to connect with more than 25,000 businesses to help place 10,600 Virginia TechHire graduates in technology jobs by 2020. Virginia also set a goal to partner with 20 additional businesses to hire TechHire program graduates by next year.

Cadence, Inc. Celebrates 20-Year Partnership with Blue Ridge Community College
Staunton, Va. (April 4, 2015) - There is a long history between Cadence and Blue Ridge Community College (BRCC) located in Weyers Cave, Va. This year marks the 20
th
anniversary that Cadence began its endowment with the school, helping to provide technologies for the Technical Studies/Manufacturing Engineering program that includes Mechatronics.
"It's important to have partners in the community like Cadence who recognize the value that we're providing," stated Amy Kiger, Executive Director of BRCC's Educational Foundation.
The relationship between Cadence and BRCC goes both ways and is much deeper than just the lifetime endowment. Not only does Cadence provide funding to the school but also some of our best employees are graduates or current students of the Mechatronics program. "I feel as though I've succeeded when students can draw back on the core building blocks learned here at Blue Ridge Community College and apply those skills to their careers," said Director of BRCC's Technology Intensive Manufacturing Service Center, Matt Goss.
"Since the company's inception, Cadence has carried a strong belief in investing in our local communities. Blue Ridge Community College has been one of those investments that has repaid us many times over," stated Cadence's Chief Financial Officer, Ken Cleveland. "Not only has Blue Ridge been a great source for new employees but as our company has grown, many of our current employees utilize Blue Ridge to continue their education and improve their skills in order to grow with the company."
Cadence also collaborates with the Community Foundation of the Central Blue Ridge (CFCBR) to support "Student Focus. Community Impact. The Campaign for Blue Ridge Community College." This partnership focuses on helping fund various technologies and curriculum materials, BRCC's Career Coach program that places educational and career advisors into 12 local high schools, and the Workforce and Economic Development program that strives to educate the community and bring awareness to the school's various degrees and certification offerings.

Member News: Cadence, Inc. Expands Cleanroom Capabilities
PLYMOUTH, Mass. (April 6, 2015) - Cadence announced today plans to enhance cleanroom capabilities in its Plymouth, Mass., and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic facilities to expand support for medical device and life science customers. Plans include:

The addition of a Class 8 cleanroom in Plymouth, Mass.
·
The expansion of the existing Class 8 cleanroom in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
"We bought our first injection molding machine in 1965. Since that time, we have focused on 'mission critical' plastic products, including parts that helped enable man to walk on the moon in 1969," said Jeff Kelly, Vice President & General Manager. "We are excited to expand this legacy to better support medical applications."
Cleanroom injection molding using engineered resins will be available on presses ranging from 17 tons to 165 tons in size. The expansion efforts, with expected completion in early May, also creates dedicated space for cleanroom assembly and automation.
"Our commitment to 'mission critical' plastic products for medical devices is driving our current expansion efforts. This investment is the direct result of the talent, hard work, and commitment of our employees making us a better company every day," stated Omar Ferretti, Vice President of Manufacturing for the Mass., and Dominican Republic facilities.
