Sproutly, a software company that innovates at the intersection of business, technology, and
people, is acquiring Prular, a story-based film company. Sproutly empowers businesses and
teams by helping them optimize their technology and empower their people. Sproutly provides
quality software engineering, website development, marketing, media production, and coaching.
According to Sproutly's CEO, Christopher George, "as Prular merges with Sproutly's media
team it brings an even deeper focus on customer communication needs and the capability of
connecting with customer's clients through emotion-driven, image-rich storytelling."

Prular was founded in 2009 by Jefferson Rodrigues who now joins Sproutly as Director of Story-
Driven Media. With a degree in film and years of travel and directing to his name, Jefferson brings his experience, passion, and connections to Sproutly. Prular is a word that came about
when Rodrigues merged two Portuguese words, Prudence and Exemplary. Jefferson brings
exemplary dedication and good judgement to storytelling and the people he works with. He
highly values connecting people and their stories.

Sproutly knows how important images are in encouraging and guiding action and so they are
excited to offer customers and the community advanced ways to connect with their customers
through images, emotions, and stories. Sproutly is proud to have Jefferson and Prular in the
Sproutly family and they look forward to the increased quality and connecting power his videos
bring.

Voya Financial Chief Security Architect Rich Wickersham will be presenting a free online presentation "Social Media OPSEC, Targeting Analysis and Countermeasures" 6-8 p.m. March 1st. His talk will review the continuing need for employee and corporate operations security (OPSEC) on social media platforms, focusing on LinkedIn.

Wickersham has more than 20 years of experience designing, implementing and securing resilient architectures for both public and private organizations. He has held previous leadership roles at AIG, Fannie Mae, the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. His presentation will focus on threats and attacks in the social media age and measures to counter those threats.

This is the first presentation in the Tech Bytes 2021 series, which is partly funded by a gift from the National Center for Women & Information Technology's Learning Circles Program designed to attract more women and minorities to the computer science field. Funding is also coming from Delti Phi, LFCC's chapter of the international technology honor society Epsilon Pi Tau, as an effort to provide networking opportunities to students.

Do you have a business idea you're excited about, but need help figuring out if you're ready to invest your time and money to bring it to life? The Idea Factory is a fast-paced, 6-week virtual program where you'll learn how to test, improve, and validate your business idea.

Who's it for?
Anyone in the Central Virginia area with a technology-driven or manufacturing-based business idea is welcome to apply. The Idea Factory will provide the training, resources, and support to test your idea and help you decide whether you are ready to take the next steps towards becoming an entrepreneur.

What is the investment?
The program fee is $500, with need-based scholarships available (we don't want cost to be a barrier for any aspiring entrepreneur). Additionally, participants who successfully complete the program, validate their idea, and plan to commit a substantial amount of time to pursuing a new business will be considered for continued support and free resources to help them keep going.

What is the time commitment?
  • 10 hours per week for 6 weeks
  • Participation in a virtual workshop 1 evening per week
  • Attend a weekly office hour with a mentor or experts
  • Willingness to talk about your idea with others, including interviewing strangers

Pharrell Williams, Georgia Tech, and Amazon invite you to engage your students in an inspiring new learning experience that explores the ways music, computer science, and entrepreneurship can be tools to advance racial equity.

Students explore how computer science, music, and entrepreneurship can advance equity. Using Georgia Tech's EarSketch platform, students code a 30 second - 3 minute musical remix using Pharrell's new song "Entrepreneur". Submitted remixes will be judged based on quality of music, code, and messaging by a panel of industry professionals.

Students can compete with their class or on their own from January 15 to June 4, 2021. Five students will win a $5,000 scholarship or grant to start a business, and five teachers will receive $1,000 for above and beyond instruction.

There will be two rounds:
  • Round one opens on January 19, 2021 and closes March 12, 2021
  • Round two opens on March 15, 2021 and closes June 4, 2021
