During Tech Nite, approx. 275 attendees honor and recognize the technology innovators of the area. This recognition helps organizations and individuals immensely - the winning organization is able to expand its network, attract employees, and obtain publicity inside and often outside of the local region. Tech Nite allows attendees to witness the successes and innovative progression of the Shenandoah Valley. We encourage everyone to attend, network with others, and celebrate the innovative companies, organizations, educators, and leaders in our area.

Lord Fairfax Community College is hosting monthly technology discussion with technology professionals from around that nation. The public is invited, but registration is required. Most talks will occur at the Middletown Campus, but they will be distancing the presentation to their Fauquier Campus also.
Upcoming talk: The Modern Technology Tsunami: How to Think About It.
How to Benefit From It. How to Survive It.
This talk will look behind the cliches about technology change to provide deeper insight about 21st century technology change and the risks and benefits it entails. Examples will be drawn from information and telecommunication technologies, artificial intelligence, and synthetic biology.
About the speaker: Richard Danzig's primary activity is as a consultant to U.S. Intelligence Agencies and the Department of Defense on national security issues. He is a Senior Advisor to the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory, Chair of the Advisory Panel for Idaho National Laboratories' Innovation Center, and a member of the Toyota Research Institute Advisory Board. He is also a member of the Homeland Security Secretary's Advisory Council, a Trustee of Reed College and of the RAND Corporation, a Director of the Center for a New American Security and a Director of Saffron Hill Ventures (a European investment firm).
Dr. Danzig has been a director of National Semiconductor Corporation (NY Stock Exchange) and Human Genome Sciences Corporation (NASDAQ). He has also served as The Chairman of the Board of The Center for a New American Security, Vice Chair of RAND, Chairman of the Board of the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments, a member of the President's Intelligence Advisory Board and the Secretary of Defense's Defense Policy Board, and a member of the Aspen Strategy Group. He served as a law clerk to U.S. Supreme Court Justice Byron White, after his graduation from Yale.
He received a B.A. degree from Reed College, a J.D. degree from Yale Law School, and Bachelor of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from Oxford University, where he was a Rhodes Scholar.

The Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) will host two input sessions to discuss the proposed FY2021 Virginia Telecommunication Initiative (VATI) guidelines and criteria. The meeting is open to the public. Representatives from units of local government, internet service providers and other interested stakeholders are encouraged to attend.
VATI has an introduced budget of $35 million for FY2021 to implement broadband infrastructure deployment in partnership with units of local government and private internet service providers across the commonwealth. The funds shall be used to extend service to areas that presently are unserved by any broadband provider.

The Virginia Association of Colleges and Employers (VACE) invites you to be a guest and attend a portion of their 2020 annual conference.
There will be a panel with representatives from Workforce Development, Economic Development, and the GOVirginia Board to discuss current trends and challenges in creating a talent pipeline. After this program, connect with career center leaders and other colleagues from across the state during their happy hour.
Because the Employer Connect event will be tied to the VACE annual conference occurring at the Hotel Madison on April 22-24, VACE will be raffling TWO individual employer memberships for the 2020-21 year (one during the Employer Panel and one during the Happy Hour). The forum will feature speakers from localities, broadband providers, and the Commonwealth Connect team about a range of topics to help achieve universal broadband coverage in Virginia. General sessions, breakout discussions, and ample networking opportunities will allow localities and broadband providers to connect and share best practices.
The forum is free, open to the public, and lunch will be provided. Full agenda and registration to follow. Local leaders and broadband providers are encouraged to attend.
