SVTC | Crash Test at the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety

At times we are able to offer our members exclusive access to often non-public places and tours, and we are very delighted that our members were able to join us at the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in Ruckersville on October 25, 2018. SVTC members toured the facility, saw a car crash test LIVE, and had a wonderful lunch! We look forward to hosting equally exciting members-only events in the future.

On the day of our visit, a Toyota truck was being crashed. Even though you know the crash is coming, it still gives you goosebumps! To become an SVTC member, connect with the other tech users and creators in the Valley AND join in at future behind-the-curtain visits take a look at the  many helpful benefits of tech council membership (pdf).

Thanks for facilitating and lunch, Rockingham Insurance!

Wood Grill Buffet, Harrisonburg

Over the last ten years, deep neural networks have been at the center of a machine learning boom that has seen hundreds of millions of dollars of investment from the tech industry, governments and academic institutions.  Dr. Sprague will briefly explain how deep neural networks work, why they've had such a big impact, and why they *won't* solve all of our problems.

About the Speaker
Nathan Sprague , Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at James Madison University and the Coordinator of the JMU Robotics Minor.  He teaches courses in AI, Robotics and Autonomous Vehicles.  His research interests are in the areas of machine learning and computer vision.
