2017 ESTEAM FOR GIRLS | Sept. 23 | Albemarle High | Free
She Started It Screening & Panel Discussion
(9/23)

She Started It is a groundbreaking documentary that profiles women entrepreneurs as they face the challenges of taking an idea and turning it into a business it in the tech world. The  film showcases the highs and lows of several female entrepreneurs, and unfortunately the lows are eye-opening to many as they highlight some unhealthy gender dynamics at play in the currently male-dominated tech space. It's important that we make these issues visible, and that budding entrepreneurs know that it's ok to take risks, try new things, and most importantly, to go after something they are truly passionate about. Inspired by the film, we would like to bring together local stakeholders interested in addressing gender barriers and empowering girls to blaze new trails.

PowerAmerica and NextFlex Informational Webinar (9/28)

On Thursday, September 28th, GENEDGE invites you to an upcoming informational webinar which will introduce PowerAmerica and NextFlex, both Manufacturing USA initiatives.  If you, or a company that you know, is interested in learning more about wide-bandgap (WBG) semiconductors or flexible hybrid electronics (FHE), this webinar is for you!  Companies interested in WBG solutions using silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN) or FHE  technology are also encouraged to participate.

About PowerAmerica and Wide Bandgap Semiconductors
PowerAmerica is a public-private partnership between industry, the U.S. Department of Energy, national labs, and academia. It seeks to save energy and create U.S. manufacturing jobs by accelerating the development and large-scale adoption of wide bandgap semiconductor technology.  Wide bandgap semiconductors operate at much higher voltages, frequencies and temperatures than conventional semiconductors. They are smaller and more energy efficient than the power electronics widely available today.

About NextFlex and and Flexible Hybrid Electronics
NextFlex was formed in 2015 through a cooperative agreement between the US Department of Defense (DoD) and FlexTech Alliance. NextFlex is a consortium of companies, academic institutions, non-profits and state, local and federal governments with a shared goal of advancing U.S. Manufacturing of FHE. By adding electronics to new and unique materials that are part of our everyday lives in conjunction with the power of silicon ICs to create con formable and stretchable smart products, FHE is ushering in an era of "electronics on everything" and advancing the efficiency of our world.

Entrepreneurial Spark Speaker Series (9/28, 4:30 pm)

On Thursday, September 28th (4:30 pm) come hear how Aaron built the burger and Sticky Nugs empire, which now encompasses 11 restaurants - stretching from across Virginia and into Tennessee and Alabama!

Jack Brown's Beer & Burger Joint is the childhood dream of two best friends, Aaron Ludwig and Mike Sabin. While spending their youthful days skateboarding and collecting old beer cans, they often talked about opening their own bar. Flash forward to adulthood, and Aaron had spent 15 years in the business world operating a ski & snowboard shop in Harrisonburg. After one crappy day at work in 2008, Aaron called Mike to propose a "what if" scenario and the rest, as the saying goes, is history.

Oh, and win prizes! There will be a raffle of two $25 gift certificates to Billy Jack's or Jack Brown's.
