A message from The Head of School
Yesterday Jill Henig, a member of our Jewish community, came to speak to our 4th -8th grade students. Through Jewish Family Services, she is helping families who have recently immigrated from Afghanistan to our area. She shared with the students that some of the families have a lot of children who would really benefit by having some opportunities to hang out with American children and invited the students to offer some ideas.
The students had a lot of great ideas and are excited to make some new friends! Many of them are excited to start setting up playdates at their houses and other students want to host a short playdate on the playground at the JCC right after the Purim Carnival on Sunday.
We are very proud of our students’ eagerness and willingness to accept not only this Mitzvah opportunity but all Mitzvah opportunities that they are presented with. This is a perfect example of our Silver Academy students living our values and pledge each and every day.

Shabbat Shalom,
Samara

Art 1st-3rd Grade
Morah Tamara
In 1st-3rd grades we are exploring the amazing true story of The Biblioburro, a traveling library in Columbia that travels on the backs of two donkeys, Alfa and Beto. Fitting his donkeys with pack saddles that were originally made to carry water, Luis Soriano, a Spanish teacher in rural Colombia, started carrying a mobile library of books to remote areas where students didn’t have access to books. The students get an appreciation for their easy access to books and a multimedia project that will stretch their artistic muscles.

Read Across America & Dr. Suess Day
Silver Academy students and staff celebrated Read Across America and Dr. Suess Day on Wednesday, March 2nd with some time in the Myra Sacks Book Nook. They made some new selections for reading time and enjoyed modeling some Cat In The Hat accessories.

Thank You for Volunteering!

There are no words to express the depth of our appreciation to you for your selfless efforts to give your time, energy and support to our Afghan friends and families. You have done so much to help our refugees make a new life in Harrisburg and we are hearing from our Afghan families that they are so happy with the assistance and encouragement they are receiving from all of our volunteers.

We are preparing to accept our next group of refugees in March and are seeking additional volunteers. We need volunteers to help with securing housing, setting up apartments, transportation to appointments, mentorship & companionship, translation or ESL instruction, helping with clothing drives and so much more.
