What’s better than watching First and Second grade students perform the story of Passover in an exciting play in Hebrew? Watching it next to a Kindergarten student who was almost jumping out of her seat with excitement that she will get to do it next year! In awe she said, I can’t wait to speak Hebrew like that!
Tuesday, April 16 was a very special day at The Silver Academy! Every Silver Academy student attended a Model Seder designed to be meaningful for them, facilitated by our outstanding teachers. Our Ganienu and Kindergarten students created their own Haggadot, which they got to use for the first time during their combined Seder. The First through Fourth grade classes joined together for their Seder which included several theatrical student performances, all in Hebrew. The Fifth through Eighth grade students joined together with the JCC’s Senior Club for an intergenerational Model Seder which featured the students assisting Rabbi Gewirtz with leading the Seder.
The celebration of Pesach is a wonderful opportunity to share our traditions from one generation to the next. What made the Silver Academy Model Seders so outstanding, in addition to the delicious food and meaningful student participation, was the intergenerational nature of them. Not only did our oldest students attend an intergenerational Seder, our Kindergarten students were invited to attend a part of the First-Fourth grade Seder where they were welcomed as guests and became very excited about what they get to look forward to as they grow.
On behalf of The Silver Academy, we wish you a wonderful Pesach, filled with opportunities to share stories and traditions among the generations.
Chag Kasher v’Sameach!

Spring is here and there has been so much to do in preparation of Pesach! Our study of Pesach consists of three sections: preparation for the holiday, the symbols at the Seder, and finally,
Maggid
- the story of Pesach.
Students loved setting the Seder table and really know what needs to be on the table. They are ready to help at home! They also learned the song “
Signs of the
Seder
”
, which helped them understand every step of the seder night.
First and Second grades enjoyed learning the
Maggid
in a fun, dramatic fashion. Students worked diligently to prepare a play with songs, music and a lot of action, which they were excited to perform Tuesday during the model seder. This was such a wonderful way for students to strengthen their Hebrew reading, and speaking fluency, syntax, vocabulary and grammar. Most importantly, students were immersed in learning about this fascinating part of our history in Hebrew. As we presented slaves breaking from slavery to freedom, with G-d’s mighty hand, we could almost feel ourselves breaking out of Egypt!
We wish you a happy and kosher Pesach!

Our fifth and sixth grade Zoologists have been learning about the characteristics and nature of worms. They were very excited to study the earthworm's anatomy by completing the first of two dissections that will take place this year. The segmented body plan of an earthworm makes it easy to study. The students eagerly identified such parts as the brain, heart, crop, and gizzard to name a few. Judging by their enthusiasm, I believe we may have some future surgeons in these classes!
