A Message from the Assistant Head of School
One of my favorite responsibilities as Assistant Head of School is to serve as Adviser to the Student Council. This group of thoughtful and active Middle School leaders impresses me every week. The Student Council began their work right after they were elected in early November. In their first month of service they organized a very fun Pajama Day, requested assistance from PTO to provide a special snack prior to going to the Symphony, began to organize special activities and a Mitzvah project for our 75th day of school (December 19) and are organizing the School Store and Chanukah Bazaar. With each project, they are carefully thinking about how they can best serve the other students and their school. As Margaret Mead stated, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” This group of Student Council members is well on their way to making a big impact!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has already so generously donated to our school during our Fall Campaign and Giving Tuesday. Our students regularly learn about the importance and impact of tzedakah ; thank you for showing them how important they and their education is through your contribution to the school.

B'Shalom,
Samara Sofian, Assistant Head of School

What's happening at school...
Three Cheers for Teamwork!
Kate Carpenter, Kindergarten

In Kindergarten we learn about the Peace Tools we can use to help us accomplish our goals. These tools work in all kinds of academic and social situations. This week students used them during indoor recess to plan and build a very impressive structure with blocks, racing cars, and Beanie Babies. It was so spectacular that we asked Mrs. Konowitch to photograph it, and she did! She also taught us that teamwork can make our dreams work.
Figures In First Grade
Brandy Hurley, First Grade

In First Grade we are learning about solid figures! Students used toothpicks and clay to make models of cubes, pyramids and rectangular prisms. They counted faces, edges and vertices.
Alumni Corner
Alumni: We really want to hear from you! As we prepare for our 75th Anniversary Celebration, we are updating our alumni records and need your help! Please take a few moments to fill out  this  survey to tell us how you are doing. Thank you!
Todah Rabah - Thank you!
  • Thank you to all of The Silver Academy supporters for your tzedakah to the school on Giving Tuesday.

  • Thank you to Samara Sofian and Kimberlea Konowitch for providing and cooking lunch for the students and staff before musical practice last Wednesday.
Mazel Tov!
  • Mazel Tov to Devorah Cheskis and the entire Cheskis family on Devorah's recent Bat Mitzvah!
D'var Torah
Mikel Garner, a 2018 graduate of the Silver Academy and current honor student at Beth Tefilah in Baltimore, wrote this Devar Torah for the Silver Summary two years ago. Mikel's grandmother, Dora Garner, for whom he helped provide hospice care, just passed. We think that the republication and study of his Devar Torah will be a fitting memorial and merit for her.
Throughout the month of December, Silver Academy volunteers are calling our community to invite everyone to do the  mitzvah  of giving  tzedakah  to our school for our Fall Campaign. We appreciate and thank you for your support.
