The Silver Academy...Where Good things happen everyday!
|
|
Mrs. Debra Freeburn, Head of School
|
|
As we embark upon a new year, I find myself asking, “Does my life have meaning and purpose?” “Is there something that I wish I had done differently or something that I’m especially proud of?” “What would I like to achieve by this time next year and why?”
On Rosh Hashanah, the symbolic Book of Life is opened and we become advocates for our personal inscription in it. We review our choices and actions from last year and honestly evaluate ourselves. We may even attempt to answer the question, “What is my reason for living?” “Is there something that I was meant to do?”
I think that I’ve recently come to the realization that my life belongs to me and that I love the life that I have. I think that everything that I do counts and ultimately I hope that my name is inscribed in the book of life. I hope that my actions and intentions are significant and I am happy because I’m trying to live a life that truly belongs to me.
The Silver Academy and the people that I’ve come in contact with in the past year, those that I get to work with every day, the knowledge that I’ve gained from listening, really listening to the faculty, staff, and families, the connections to the other Jewish agencies, working like a Super Bowl team to achieve a common goal….these are intentional and purposeful actions that I hope to continue throughout the year. I am not there…yet!!!
G’mar Tov - May you be sealed in the Book of Life,
Debra

Second Grade General Studies
Mrs. Brandy Hurley
As we become more independent readers, it is important to practice good habits. Students are learning to become stronger readers by previewing books, reading longer phrases to improve fluency and remembering to stop, think and retell what they have read. We practice these strategies with partners and independently.

Ganeinu
Mrs. Tammy Reid (Morah Tamara)
Making sweet, round challah is a tradition on Rosh Hashana that reminds us of the cyclic nature of life and to have a sweet new year. In Ganeinu we have been exploring this and many other symbols of the season like the shofar and apples and Honey.
