Have you noticed how many misdelivered orders and packages there are in Sincuidados? Maybe not, because we are fortunate to have a cadre of fellow neighbors who serve as our unofficial secondary delivery service. Sometimes four or five times a week, you'll find this team actively redistributing items to intended recipients. While this is a kind gesture, it is not an efficient or sustainable solution for package delivery within our community.
In this new year, let's all work together so packages are delivered to the correct address on the first attempt. Here are some thoughts to consider:
- Use the 8300 or 8400 address for mail (like bills) you want to receive at the community mailbox clusters near the entrances. Note: This is not the delivery address. The main gate has a different address for deliveries.
- For deliveries from online sources (e.g., Amazon, grocery store, Instacart, wine subscription, Door Dash, Shipt, furniture manufacturer), use the address 30600 N. Pima Rd, your lot #, when placing the order. This guides drivers to the front gate and facilitates their entry into the community.
- Delivery services often use GPS and are directed to the 8300 or 8400 address, meaning they are taken to a side gate where they can't get in. They may or may not attempt to call you, and may or may not reach you, potentially resulting in misdelivery (random dump and run!). The best way to circumvent this problem is to give clear delivery instructions and use the delivery address for the front gate.
- For the online services you frequently use, check your default delivery address (30600 N. Pima Rd.) to make sure the correct address is saved. When you have the option to provide delivery instructions, it's a wise idea to include your lot number and contact information. A sample note might be, “Use the main N. Pima gate, ask for a community map, and call 480-555-5555 if you get lost.”
- Update the published Sincuidados Directory with the first and last names, phone numbers, and email addresses of all recipients in your home, so that when a package is misdelivered, your neighbors can reach you promptly to sort things out.
- If you receive someone else's package, either contact your neighbor or take the package to the front gate.
- If you have visitors in your home, be sure they know what to do when a package is misdelivered and how to correctly address packages they plan to receive during their stay.
- Include your lot number in two places in case there is a narrow label, and something gets cut off - 1. At the end of your address (30600 N. Pima, Lot #___), and 2. On the second street address line.
- Check your email (including spam/junk), voicemails, and texts for order confirmation and delivery details or neighborly alerts. You can always reach the gate if you need help.
Misdelivered packages are more than an inconvenience or a nuisance. When packages are left unclaimed for too long or thrown away, it creates problems for everyone. We can avoid these issues by being extra careful when we initiate orders, making sure our addresses are correct and giving clear instructions to delivery drivers. Then our packages will get to the right place the first time around.
