ST VINCENT DE PAUL THANKS YOU A young woman was taken by surprise when she lost a full-time job she valued. She hastily enrolled in a program to get certification in a new field and later discovered that enrolling in the program disqualified her for unemployment. Unable to quit her program without a financial impact from student loans, the woman continued her studies in the full time program while looking for a part time job. Finding herself short of rent money, the woman called the St Vincent de Paul Helpline (206-767-6449). Thanks to your support, we pledged enough to help one month’s rent. Information, Jo Ann Wiesner, 206-291-4012 or wiesnerjo@gmail.com.

Information and registration, John Marquez,

CARE FOR CREATION TIP Restaurants and cafes throughout England will soon be barred from using some of the most common single-use plastics. At St. James, most Cathedral events use re-usable or compostable products, including plates, utensils and cups. Using compostable or re-usable items helps to disestablish the throwaway culture. May all of us do our part to ensure that the Earth, our common home, not be reduced to, in Pope Francis’ words, “an immense pile of filth.”

NAMI EASTSIDE ONLINE SPIRITUAL RETREAT The Amazing Power Of Gratitude! Led by Joe Stevens, Saturday, February 25, 2023, 10AM-12:30PM. Register at https://nami-eastside.org/seminars. Space is limited so please register before February 22.

SANDWICH MAKING MINISTRY Healthy sandwiches can be made at home and then brought to the Cathedral to share with men staying at the St. Martin de Porres Shelter. Information, Patrick Barredo, 206-382-4515 or pbarredo@stjames-cathedral.org.

2023 WASHINGTON STATE LEGISLATiVE SESSION The Washington State Catholic Conference (WSCC) provides weekly updates on bills that can help support some of the most vulnerable in our state. This year, some of the proposed bills include help for Medicaid recipients, promotion of climate-friendly practices, and support for survivors of human trafficking. In addition, the WSCC opposed bills on the mishandling of human embryos as well as expansion of assisted suicide. The Chair: A Documentary

The Archdiocese of Seattle was recently featured in a video series called “The Chair,” celebrating cathedrals, bishops and dioceses throughout the United States. Both Father Ryan and Corinna Laughlin are featured in this 24-minute film, which also includes stunning footage of the Cathedral. It's free to watch but does require creating a free account to access the Seattle episode.
