The Resoptima Newsletter - 6th Edition

As we come up to the final weeks of 2022, there is still a lot going on in the realm of ensemble-based modelling. In this last newsletter of the year, we recap our most salient improvements to the ResX software over the past 6 months. Also a review of the conferences, trade events and papers we have recently co-authored with our clients, the press release announcing our partnership with Aker BP, Sval Energi and NORCE to research and develop technologies to reduce CO2 emissions from oil and gas production, and finally our participation in the Schlumberger Digital Platform Partner Program.

Upcoming events:

3rd EAGE Sub Salt Conference

Rio de Janeiro, Nov 25-27

Resoptima Abdul Saboor Khan will be presenting a joint paper co-authored with GALP (see below for abstract) in session VIII - Optimizing production and recovery factor - Friday, Nov 25, from 9:30 to 10:10 AM.

FORCE  Experience Sharing: Assisted History Matching & Ensemble Modelling

NPD offices, Dec 7-8

Resoptima has been invited to present at this event.

Evolution of ResX in the last 6 months

ResX is developed and improved using DevOps processes, which deliver at regular and relatively short intervals new or modified features that are mainly user-driven improvements. Here is a list of the salient new capabilities of ResX over the past 6 months, present in version 2022.10:

  • A new run validation feature allows users to check for proper configuration prior to running a whole ensemble-based simulation study
  • Overhaul of the ensemble analysis process to facilitate running it a single time to highlight the quality of the ensemble. This should help users look for opportunities to improve the ensembles before submission
  • The first results of a series of developments to improve flexibility for the Create initial ensemble (CIE) process are in ResX 2022.10, notably the dropping of folders of facies realizations into the facies modelling for CIE. They are then translated into probabilities per facies using a smoothing algorithm
  • The transfer of ensembles from ResX to IRMA has seen significant improvements in terms of higher speeds and lower memory consumption

Major trade shows attended this fall

Resoptima had booths at the SPE-ATCE in Houston early October and at ADIPEC in Abu Dhabi end-October to early November. These were great opportunities to meet existing customers and to have constructive conversations with potential clients and partners attending these events.

Resoptima partners with Aker BP, Sval Energi, and NORCE to reduce CO2 emissions from oil and gas production

Press release - Oslo, NORWAY, November 17, 2022: Resoptima announced today a joint project with the support of the Research Council of Norway. The partnership includes Aker BP and Sval Energi as E&P operators and NORCE as an independent research institute. The project aims at leveraging Resoptima’s reservoir modelling and reservoir management technologies to further develop specific solutions that will help reduce CO2 emissions associated with oil and gas asset development and production activities. The scope of the project is relevant to all upstream oil and gas operators, and once validated by all parties, the software solution will be added to the commercial portfolio of Resoptima for licensing on a global basis.

Resoptima in the news

Resoptima is featured as a Partner on the new SLB website (http://slb.com) in the new Digital Platform Partner Program launched in September 2022 to drive awareness of new technologies compatible with the DELFI platform. So far Resoptima is the only company benefiting from a specific "spotlight" page https://www.slb.com/partners/digital-platform-partner-program/spotlight-resoptima This was announced during the September 2022 Schlumberger Digital Forum in Luzern, Switzerland. Our CEO Atila Mellilo and GM Europe / Africa Stuart Grossart attended the event.
