The Skokie Home Scoop

Dear Skokie Families,

It's fair to say the mood is light and cheery in our building with many excited students and staff anticipating a much needed break!  Whether you are headed out of town or looking forward to a week at home, we hope you take the week to recharge and relax.  I truly believe we are a hearty people as a result of surviving midwestern winters.  It makes us that much more appreciative of our spring and summer months, but there's no doubt that our winters take a toll.  The kids get stir-crazy and the adults do too, in our own way.  Take time to get outside, disconnect from technology and reconnect with your loved ones.

When we return, there are several dates to keep in mind:

FIFTH GRADE ORIENTATION (This is meant for incoming 5th graders and their parents)
Tuesday, April 16
The Skokie School

Friday, April 19

Thursday, April 25

Enjoy the time together with your families!  We look forward to seeing you back at school on Monday, April 1!

Most Sincerely,

Kelly Tess

Spring Cleaning and New Beginnings

As I made my way around the building today, I happened upon one of our 5th grade classes who was cleaning up the north courtyard of the building. Students were working together to pick up leaves, as well as sketching some of what they saw in their nature notebooks. It was a wonderful intersection of the study of science, teamwork, and giving back to the community.

As you enter into this week of togetherness with your child(ren), I hope you enjoy some time to refresh, reflect, and recharge. Spring is the time of new beginnings, and we are looking forward to beginning our last several months together upon the students' return! I am confident there are great learnings and experiences in store as they enter into their final months of 5th and 6th grade.

Kindergarten Registration
Kindergarten pre-registration for 2019-2020 is now open. Children who will be five-years-old on or before September 1, 2019, are eligible to enroll. The District's Kindergarten Committee and Central PTO unanimously approved shifting to an online process versus an on-site process. This shift minimizes the time needed to pre-register and respects the busy schedules of our families.

The Registration process is completed in two steps:
  1. Complete an online pre-registration form
  2. Provide proof of residency (documents can be uploaded online): child(ren)'s original birth certificate and a parent photo ID will need to be provided in person. Opportunities to do so will be made available in Spring 2019. The list of documents that will meet these requirements is here:
If you have any questions, please contact the District Office at 847-446-9400 .

A webpage dedicated to Redistricting will continue to be updated regularly: .
