The Skokie Home Scoop - May 12, 2017
Dear Skokie Families,
This year, The Skokie School undertook one of the largest scale projects we have experienced in some time. Our building of teachers, students and staff lived through a full year of a schedule pilot in which two schedule models were experienced to guide us toward a final schedule model decision for the 2017/2018 school year. There were several points throughout the year where the detail of that work was shared out as a means of keeping our school community informed of our work.
As we near the end of the school year, we are narrowing in on feedback from our staff and students, and would be interested to hear our parent voices in this reflection as well. If you have a moment, please take the time to complete the survey linked below.
We have already surveyed our staff and students, and you may be interested to see the following responses on just a few of the questions we asked:
FROM THE STAFF...
FROM THE STUDENTS...
Just based on these responses, it is clear that both students and staff value a balance of inquiry and intervention in the educational experience; however, the ultimate challenge is finding the healthy balance of the two. I am confident that we are nearing a decision about the schedule that accomplishes this for the benefit of our students. I do want to take the time to thank the teachers that dedicated two full years of time, research, and interest to this effort. The Skokie School's schedule has been largely untouched since 1999, and it was time to give it some attention. Nevertheless, this is one of the largest undertakings a school can commit to, and one that our staff has experienced with total commitment to do what's best for our students.
Happy Mother's Day to all those celebrated this weekend! Mothers are often a child's first teacher, and a vital partner in the work that our schools do. Enjoy the gorgeous weather coming for us this weekend, and we'll look forward to seeing everyone back on Monday.
