Wear Red on Friday

The National Heart Lung, and Blood Institute has designated Friday, February 7th as National Wear Red Day. People around the country are encouraged to wear red to bring greater attention to heart disease, which is the leading cause of death for Americans.

City employees are also encouraged to wear red and come to City Hall to participate in our National Wear Red Day photo. Please arrive by 11:15 AM. The photo will be taken promptly at 11:30 AM. Special red sunglasses and heart stress balls will be distributed to participants on a first come, first served basis.

If you are not able to venture to City Hall for the photo, we encourage you to snap "Wear Red" photos in your department and send them to hr@pearlandtx.gov to be featured in next week's Slice.

Behavioral & Mental Health Awareness

1 in 4 of us will experience a mental health problem in any given year. Too many of us are made to feel isolated, worthless, and ashamed because of this.

In addition, February is a month that can be difficult for some people due to shorter, darker days, which can lead to Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD).

In this Feb communication, we’ll share a few topics around Mental Health and provide applicable resources:

  1. Time to Talk Day
  2. Eating Disorders Awareness week (2/23-2/29)
  3. Seasonal Affective Disorder
  4. Random Acts of Kindness week (2/16-2/23)

Time to Talk Dayan annual awareness day that encourages people to start conversations about mental health. Time to Talk Day is on Thursday 6 February 2025. It’s a chance for all of us to be more open about our mental health and talk about how we really feel. It is about helping people and communities to come together to have the nation’s biggest mental health conversation.

Time to Talk Day- Positive mental health conversations can be life-changing.
