Happy October! Or, as we like to say around the (virtual) SL water cooler: the toughest deadline month all year. As we race to the finish line in the production of the 2021 Sophisticated Giving Charity Register and the Holiday issue of Sophisticated Living Columbus, I wish I had more brainpower to offer something insightful or profound in this intro to this e-newsletter, but I can tell you that if I were not on deadline, I would head over to my close friend Connie's divine Leál Boutique for the last day of the Suprema Trunk Show. I treated myself to a shearling coat from last year's collection, and I am *almost* wishing for a cold day so I can pull it back out. And, my girls have already called dibs on who gets it when I am gone (does this just get worse as the years go on??).
Speaking of the Charity Register, if you have a favorite nonprofit you'd like to see recognized, hit reply to this email and let me know. They may already be included, but we have a precious few spots left - so it is worth a discussion.

Apple and Pumpkin Picking
As the temperature drops, we want nothing more than to throw on our favorite Fall jacket and head to one of the many orchards that surround Columbus. Baking an apple pie or carving pumpkins with a spooky movie playing in the background and a drink or two sounds like an ideal October night-in to us!
We're so excited to visit the Franklin Park Conservatory again, and we can't think of a better time to visit than for the annual Pumpkins Aglow display. Hundreds of Jack-O-Lanterns and other seasonal horticulture will transform the conservatory into the perfect family or date night out.
October 14-18 and 21-25

DR. MARSHALL ROSENBERG
At the urging of a friend, I recently completed the four-week course on Foundations of NonViolent Communication through the Compassionate Communication Center of Ohio. Based on the writings of Dr. Marshall Rosenberg, the course is a primer for anyone interested in learning to peacefully solve conflict - in the workplace and in social and political settings. With the increasingly polarizing climate in our country as November 3rd looms, it's more important than ever that we learn to listen more and talk less. CCCO offers a variety of programs that will teach you about how to gracefully navigate relational conflict.

WAYS WE ARE PASSING THE TIME

We love viewing the world through other people's eyes - or lens. Well-known black and white photographer Alain Laboile gives us a glimpse into his picturesque life in the French countryside in this gorgeous collection of photos.

I'm battling the "COVID-15" by beefing up my exercise routine and have found that regular visits to my favorite cryotherapy spa help to sooth my worn-out body, amp up my metabolism, and help me sleep more deeply. If you haven't tried it, brace yourself - it's cold (of course), but totally worth it.
