A WORD FROM THE EDITOR
Thirteen years ago I started one of the greatest love affairs of my life.

My children were 4, 6, 8, and 10. I was married with a house in the suburbs, a pool, and a lake house. My SUV was constantly full of sports gear or antiques, I loved my career, and we traveled often enough. Weeknights and weekends that weren’t spent at the lake were spent at horse shows, swim meets, or baseball games. Something was missing, and I knew in my heart what it was.

In 2013, Paula Haines was busy running a well-established, successful boutique marketing agency in Dublin when something drew her to Freedom a la Cart, a nonprofit social enterprise that empowers survivors of sex trafficking and exploitation to rebuild their lives with freedom and self-sufficiency by offering comprehensive impact services, paid workforce training and a long-term community of peer-based support. To provide job skill training to survivors, a tiny food cart business had been created - which today has blossomed into a thriving box lunch and catering business, employing more than 120 survivors since its inception.

KALEIDOSCOPE YOUTH CENTER (KYC)

KYC exists to help LGBTQIA+ youth thrive, learn, lead, and be exactly who they were meant to be. As the largest and longest-serving organization of its kind, KYC works in partnership with youth, ages 12-24, to create safer and affirming spaces for young people through their drop-in center, community education and outreach, advocacy and civic engagement, and in health and wellness, and housing opportunities.

The last time I visited The Palm Beaches in Southeast Florida, I was excited to attend a cabaret show at The Colony Hotel in the Town of Palm Beach. While the show, a bastion of a bygone era, lived up to my expectations, it was clear from the sea of silver topping the heads of my fellow showgoers in the hotel's celebrated Royal Room that my affinity for the genre was an anomaly for my age.
